Hello to all,
I'm interested in buying an older 3 series BMW, something from 1996 to 2000. I'm not that familiar with BMW so I'm wondering if there is any particular model, engine or year to stay away from? How are the automatic transmissions, do they usually need an overhaul after 100K or are they good for 160 to 170K? How are the engines, are they
reliable? What's a better engine the 1.8 or 2.8? What are the common problems with this car? What should I look for when checking out a car to buy. Thanks.
Jerry

Don't know too much about the 3-series, but I've heard people say that the '98 E46 is the best of the lot. There are a few problems with it, but all in all most people are happy with their E46s.

Ok thanks. The e46 is in the newer end of what i'm looking for. I'll keep it in mind.
