1996 T&C Rear Evaporator.

Can someone tell me where the rear evaporator is located in a 1996 T&C. Also I was wondering what keeps the rear evaporator from freezing when the blower is off? Will the TXV alone keep it from freezing?

It's in the rear HVAC unit passenger side rear behind the trim panels. Get under the van by the passenger side rear wheel and look up. You should see two approx 1/2 inch diameter metal tubes an inch apart leading into the van. The evaporator is directly above. No need to worry about freezing. What is TXV?

TXV = Thermostatic Expansion Valve. It controls the flow of refrigerant into the evaporator based off suction line temperature, basically it controls superheat.

Hey thanks. We both learned something. Now that you mention it I changed one some years ago.

While we are learning, could you tell me where the cabin air filter is located on this vehicle?

If it has one it will be under the dash to the left of the glove box. Should see a door on the HVAC unit. Open it and slide the filter out.

96 won't have one, they didn't appear until mid 02 and even 02's are hit or miss if they have one.

Evidently, even 03s are hit or miss. My 03 doesn't have one either.
