Fuel tank filler pipeventurenot 12-03-2010, 10:38 PM I have a very rusty fuel filler pipe. I was wondering if replacing it would be a difficult job. Anyone know what type of labor is involved. Can it be done within an hour. venturenot 12-06-2010, 08:44 PM Ok, I'll answer my own question. Dealer wanted $250.00 for pipe. I purchased one for $99.00 online at fillernecksupply.com http://www.fillernecksupply.com/servlet/the-274/10425290-1998-98-1999/Detail I found a mechanic to install it for 1 hour labor. It was badly rusted and they had a difficult time removing the old pipe. Even with all the trouble, at the very most, it probably only took 35 minutes. lesterl 12-06-2010, 10:03 PM Nice, sorry I missed your original post..... j cAT 12-07-2010, 09:06 AM [quote=venturenot;6843332]Ok, I'll answer my own question. Thanks for the web site for a lower price. the oem dealer fillers do go for over 200.oo ... not much to changing ,,,,most important is to clean the area thoughly to avoid debris entering the tank... I would replace fuel filter also.... venturenot 12-07-2010, 05:35 PM Yes, I was going to do the fuel filter next. That pipe was sooooo rusty, I didn't realize how bad it was. j cAT 12-08-2010, 09:41 AM Yes, I was going to do the fuel filter next. That pipe was sooooo rusty, I didn't realize how bad it was. on my silverado I had a small hole where the bracket is welded to the pipe. a forum member stated he used metal/epoxy to repair his hole ..I did it and then applied a brush on minerial spirits based rust proofing so far 2yrs now looks great.. if your fuel filter has some dirt in it, replacing will improve engine starts much faster.. venturenot 12-13-2010, 11:28 PM Ok, pipe was replaced, but now having difficulty filling the tank. The gas pump keeps shutting off like the tank is fuel. I can't insert the gas handle in all the way, I have to barely insert it to get it to pump. I had this problem with the old filler pipe at certain service stations like Sunoco. However, with this new pipe the problem is much more severe and seems to be a problem at all service stations.
