My 97 Camry Reverse Light stays ON and the Tail light (blew up) indicator also stays ON when ever my Headlights is ON. When I switch off headlights , the reverse light and tail light indicator is OFF. This is happening since two days. And now the Check Engine light is ON.

I have checked my fuses under the steering wheel all are good., but I did not check the Relay Fuse.

The car runs without any issues, and I see that its mostly because of some wire problem., please help.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Kash.

First thing to do is head to an Autozone or the like and have them connect a scanner and read whatever code is turning on the CE light. It's free.

If the CE light turns out to be unrelated, there is a small box located on the driver's side rear wheelwell inside the trunk that senses when a taillight goes out. Some of these have been known to fail. Open it up and look for any overheated components. If you're adept at soldering (or know someone who is) you can replace the bad part for pennies. If not, a used parts yard should have one for sale

Good luck!

In addition to what jdmccright suggested, check the loom of wires inside the trunk by the driver's side trunk hinge. Many times, in all generations of Camry, the wires inside that loom can frey and break from all the flexing those wires are exposed to as the trunk is constantly opened and closed. Sometimes the wires frey enough so that several of them touch each other causing problems like what you are experiencing. Open up that loom and inspect the wires. If you see freyed wires, fix what you find with electrical tape. Broken sections of wire require a little bit more work.
