Suburban bad oil leak

Just finished changing the oil in my 1990 Suburban. The filter was stuck and had to be wrestled off. I eventually had to cut the filter off and unscrew the base with needlenose pliers in the holes around the threaded part. Anyway, I put the new filter on, added oil, and started her up to check for leaks. Oil was practically pouring out of the filter area. Upon further inspection with a flashlight, the oil is leaking from above the filter - oil filter adapter? Only leaks when running, and before this, never leaked even a drop of oil. Any ideas?

You twisted or distorted the adapter in some way, take it off look at the gasket and adapter closely.

Thanks for the reply. Is taking the adapter off pretty simple? I'm guessing I take the filter off first and then unbolt the adapter?
