Revell SLS and 458

Revell had the SLS and 458 on display at Scale Model World (the UK IPMS Nats) this weekend. The kits are both on schedule to hit European stores early in December. The SLS looked superb, as did the 458 - mostly. I specifically asked the guys on the stand about the 458 wheels and tyres, and they said that the model on display (which is the one on the Revell Germany web site) is a prototype, and that I didn’t need to go buy some new larger wheels and lower profile tyres. Which implies that the ones on the display model are NOT what we’ll get in the real kit.

I’m sure some pictures of the display will surface (I didn’t have my camera with me at the time - doh!)

errr, no camera! I'll forgive you since you gave us a report. Thanks! Tell me, does the SLS have opening doors?

No camera? Not even cell phone? Shame on you! :-)
Just kidding of course. Good news. Can't wait for SLS.

Yeah, seems like it does, even though the item details don't say anything about opening doors:

Model-details:
- Authentically reconstructed bodywork with finely structured surfaces
- Detailed interior with authentic dashboard and textured seats
- Separate, opening bonnet
- Highly detailed multipart eight-cylinder engine
- True-to-the-original rims and brakes
- Steerable front axle
- Detailed wheel suspensions
- Moveable wheels
- Detailed chassis
- Many chromed parts
- Various decals with international plates (D, NL, F, CH, GB)

It does too...
"The gullwing doors and bonnet open upwards - just like on the original."

I'm impressed. The rear wing is moulded in place but the interior looks awesome with a full headliner. I hope the US release is not too far away.

Thank you for the pictures. Definitely looks good!...only the quality of the tires appears to be poor :disappoin

But then again, I think this is now a matter of tradition on all Revell automotive kits!? :evillol:

WTF is wrong with these tires? Other than that, looks good to me.

 Impressive looking kit!
Minus the tires ( are those Pirelli PZero's? ) and the 2 part wheels.

Still donīt like the front end of the SLS, but canīt wait to get this kit after all.
Going to make my own version.

WTF is wrong with these tires?
Just remember, itīs a test shot. Maybe the used just a bit too much rubber and it was pressed between the two casting moulds.

welldone revell!
Just tyre dept. seems not to be at top level (maybe is just my impression, being a feticist of tamiya wheels).
They made very good improvment in kit quality. All new revell kits have nice interior and engine details, and all at a very good price in stores.
Hope they will go on and on this way.......and with better wheels.

Looks nice!

But the wheels and tires are shit!

Yes... god forbid we should have to stick two pieces of plastic together and clean up a seam, if you can see it... Since I'd probably strip the chrome anyway, I've got no issue with two part wheels. And if the tyres are like that in the final version, well I think it might be easier and look better to cut out a disk from the back side tyre rim where you can't see it than to remove a "gate" from the middle of the tread, where it usually is. Frankly, that looks like a superbly detailed and engineered kit, and I'm looking forward to getting my hands on one...
