Chroming Resin wheels?

I am building a 1/24th scale model of a friends 87S10 Pick up truck. I Found the wheels on Thepartsbox.com but they come in the raw cast resin.. how do i chrome them?

Hi,
Primming with resin primer first,
Paint gloss black then,
and finally paint with the crome paint you prefer (Alcad II, KOSUTTE GIN SAN, etc...)

Your best bet is probably going to be Alclad II, Spazstix (?) or similar kind of product.

There have also been some useful and interesting comparative threads here in the past that a search using "Alclad chrome" should turn up.

An alternative may be to send it to a chrome plating service (I know there is one in the USA but I can't recall its name right now. Chrometech?). However, I have no idea if they can plate resin. Also, tbh, I don't personally think that the effect will be worth the preperation bother and the cost. :2cents:

I'm pretty sure it's Chrometech U.S.A. for that plating service. Give them a shout. They are set up for small jobs like this and shouldn't be ThAT expensive.

I just got my order of Kosutte Gin San, and I don't want to bother Chrometech with a curiosity call, but can you give us a rough idea of their pricing?

Another curiosity question: Do you know if they can chrome just one section of a plastic part, like a raised chrome strip or badge?

I answered my own question. Chrome Tech has their pricing on their website, http://www.chrometechusa.com/. SwiftyR is right, the prices seem reasonable. But the wait time is pretty long, so it sounds like the best thing is to send out parts for chroming when you first start the build.

Yeah they take a long time.. Mainly bc he does Batches of parts he said he is doing a batch the first week in Dec.

I have sent many many wheels to Chrome Tech USA. I get resin or plastic chromed for $4 per wheel. The turnaround is very long, sometimes 2-3 months. He doesn't chrome just yours, he waits until he gets a full chamber of orders before he vaporizes the chamber. Similar to photo etching sites.

Also can someone direct me where I can find Chevy badges for some cars I'm doing i.e. Super Sport, 396, Nova etc.
