I was in the process of replacing my ball joints on my 98' 4.0 liter 4x4 ranger, when I realized I damage the drive axle retaining ring. I have a torsion front end with vacuum pulse hubs. I could not find anyone around(on the phone) that knew what the heck I was talking about. I went ahead and assembled the front end without it in the hopes that I could do a little research on the matter. My manual says you need to replace this ring everytime the drive axle is removed from the hub and you need a special tool to install this ring, how true is this. Does anyone have a pn. for this ring, it is a white plastic snap ring type of clip with a spiral ring also. I also broke my black plastic hub, reinstalling the drive axle. Any help would be great.
Thanks,m
Scott

I had to go to the dealership for these little jems, $21.00 each. The part number F87A-3B457-AA. I figured I would post this info here in case anyone else runs into this problem. The book calls for these to be replaced everytime the axle shafts are removed from the wheel hub. I also replaced my Vacuum pulse hubs with manual locking hubs from Rugged Ridge pn:15001.70. While the old hubs were removed I was able to install the retaining rings without the special too from Ford. Not a big deal. These new hubs apear to be good quality and installation was a breeze. Hope this help someone out one day.
