Interresting information. I can be wrong, but with that type of big wings it looks more like a Deutch Championship version, than a FIA / ACO version.

MCLAREN CONFIRMS GT3 RACING PROGRAMME FOR MP4-12C

McLaren and CRS Racing in partnership to develop GT3 racing car based on new McLaren MP4-12C road car
First customer cars planned for 2012 season
12C’s innovative carbon chassis, light weight and aerodynamics promise winning performance from race-bred road car
WOKING, UK (Dec 17, 2010) – McLaren today confirms its plans to bring back the McLaren name to GT sports cars racing. From 2012, McLaren and CRS Racing will supply and support a limited number of GT3 racing cars based on the McLaren MP4-12C high-performance sports car for European-based privateers.

15 years since the McLaren F1 GTR famously won the world-famous 24 Heures du Mans (Le Mans) on its debut, and 12 years since six ‘Longtails’ last raced at Le Mans, McLaren and CRS Racing, a successful and experienced UK-based racing team, have begun development work aimed at turning the 12C road car into a race-winning GT3 sports car. As part of the development programme, McLaren and CRS Racing will compete at a limited number of European GT races in 2011.

With the 12C’s revolutionary lightweight one-piece moulded carbon chassis (the ‘MonoCell’), its high levels of downforce and aerodynamic performance, and its focus on form and function, the 12C should prove to be a great platform on which to develop a racing car, as well as visually setting pulses racing at European race tracks.

Martin Whitmarsh, Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Team Principal said: “Racing is in our blood – it was natural to develop a GT3 car alongside the 12C road car. We have a legendary history in global motorsport, including GT racing, and we aim to maintain that reputation with this GT3 programme, and any future sports car projects that may evolve.

“The 12C’s architecture and design was always aimed at high-performance and ease of maintenance - two key criteria for potential customers. Combine that with the vast amount of racing experience in our automotive team, and CRS Racing’s specialist development experience, and the 12C GT3 should be an exciting proposition for the top teams planning to race in GT3 from 2012.”

Andrew Kirkaldy, Team Principal, CRS Racing said: “It is a rare opportunity to work with a company like McLaren and we are proud to be involved. Together, we aim to produce the highest quality GT car on the grid. The level of engineering experience at McLaren is unparalleled and this will be reflected in the 12C GT3. One of the most important aspects of this programme will be customer service and for that reason we will be building a limited number of cars at a competitive price. The result will be an incredible GT car with manageable running costs and good residual value that will provide its owner with an unrivalled experience.”

Further details about the McLaren 12C GT3 racing car programme will be announced in 2011 and interest from prospective customers can be registered on www.mclarengt.com.

Initial plans are for a limited run of 12Cs developed for the 2012 European FIA GT3 Series, but, as with McLaren Automotive’s road car business, conservative growth and expansion will be considered.

CRS Racing will build, sell and support the 12C GT3 cars in close collaboration with McLaren. The Leicestershire-based racing team has a strong pedigree in GT racing in the Le Mans Series, the FIA GT Championship, the International GT Open and the British GT Championship. CRS also runs two successful single-seater teams: in the Formula Renault UK Championship and as Atech CRS in the GP3 Series

Hi!!!
Back with some good news. Everyone knows that the GT3 will run in Goodwood. But THE news is that the car will probably run in Spa with the British GT Championship on 9 july to prepare 24 hours of Spa end of july.
Also, McLaren upgrade the car with new bonnet (2 holes), new front bumper (1 hole in the middle) and a BIG air intake on the engine bonnet.
bye

Edit: They also add a fog light between the exaust exit and change the position of air jack plug

Today the 12C GT3 was again in Spa for the British GT
Free practice 1: 2nd in 2.23.637
Free practice 2: 6th in 2.24.305
Qualifying 1 : 1st in 2.23.479
Qualifying 2 : 8th in 2.24.898

Andrew Kirkaldy words:
“Although we have covered around 4500km in testing this is the first time we have had any opportunity to go up against any other cars, so before today it was something of an unknown quantity. We are very pleased with the way things have gone: the McLaren is reasonably on the pace straight out of the box, it feels great to drive and technically everything has gone as planned.”

In the race 1 the 12C GT3 finish 12.
Goodwin start in 1st position and was leading the first part of the race (the 10 first lap), then during the pit stop, the car stay 20 secondes more than other cars, to check and repaire things after a contact with another car. Kirkaldy came back on the track in 12 position and it will stay like that till the end.

Best lap for the 12C GT3 is in 2.26.463 (2.24.845 for the fastest car / Ferrari 458)
The 12C arrive 1.24.460 after the winner (Porsche Trackspeed)

Race 2, the 12C GT3 finish 4 at 24.020 from first place (Ferrari 458)
With a best lap in 2.25.936 (2.24.822 for the fastest car / Ferrari 458)

Few words to tell that last week McLaren was back in Navarra for a 30 hours test. Pilotes were officaly Kirkaldy, Goodwin, Turvey and Parente, but it looks that Adam Christodoulou and Glynn Geddie was also there with 3 other pilote. For now it's still a secret as the way how the car was on that test.
But we are able to see that, to prepare the night in Spa, they add 2 big light on the bonnet.
And definitly, they 12C-GT3 looks more and more like 01R in Le Mans 1995, with that n°59 and light on the bonnet.
See you tomorrow for Official news from Spa.

Just back home from an exciting 4 days weekend at Spa.
I had good and bad times at, and with the McLarens boys; training, qualifying, race, lot of discussions etc.
But the big drama's also: I made the pics of the first real BIG crash with the #59 (which is prototype chassis 2).
When all pics are converted and I do have the time, you 'll see them.
And off course, McLaren owns them already, the same hour at the media center ;)
The whole story and pics soon.

Hi, the two following links are my report from 24 hours of Spa 2011.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/emka41/sets/
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGhMf0U_KMQ

After that race, my personal opinion is that the car is not ready yet. McLaren still have big work before getting first places...
A little list of problems which they meet:
Oil system failure (fire on RP01)
Gearbox need a bigger setup (001 was blocked on 3rd gear during the night)

And the good point is that the car is going weel, even with many kilogrammes (i saw a lest of 7kgs ; but looks like they had more. Impossible to know)

Some memories comes up in me about the Spa race last year which I didn't share yet.
As you know no.59 crashed out of the race, and I saw it happen right in front of me through the view finder of my camera...
After the crash some team members arrived and asked me what I saw, I told them and showed them my pics, they're shocked too.
Within some minutes I was at the hospitality unit to drink a coffee and waited for their press-member.
We went into the media center and I gave them all my pics, which they send directly to their head quarter.
After all it was shaking experience I'll never forget, seeing your favorite crashing in front :frown:
Enough words, some of my pics.

Nice to see the McLaren MP4-12C GT3 included in the latest car pack for Forza Motorsport 4. Its the no.59 car as raced at Spa but without the extra light pack on the front of the car. The car has plenty of grip and can be ugradable to over 700hp. Unfortunately the car in game doesnt sound as good as it does in real life. :(

Hi,
Someone is going to Spa 24H here???

Off course
Still have to decide to go for 3 or 4 days, I enjoyed the last years 4 days stay very much.

About last year.
#001 @ Davidoff41, you're right, additionally: K.H. was the owner in Spa already
and yes No.58 was proto 001 and No.59 was proto 002

Some pics, and note the difference between the place of the chassic plates; the protos (No. 58 and 59) had a plate on the roll cage only, the first production GT3, chassis #001, No. 60 had it below the windscreen (like the road cars).

United Autosport have pulled their McLarens from Spa to concentrate on next year. UA's Richard Dean has made a very interesting comment to dailysportscar.

"We have had some pretty unrepresentative results so far this year and with some exciting plans already coming together for 2013 with McLaren we believe the better and more constructive option right now with our available resource is to put together and undertake a programme to help develop the cars rather than running them in a 24 hour race."

Now what exciting plan next year with McLaren can that be? Its got to be the GT-E car. Nothing else would really fit. If they were continuing on with the GT3 car next year it wouldnt make sense of them to pull out of Spa because they could use Spa as a giant test session. Exciting times ahead.

And here is a video made by McLaren ahead of the Spa race with factory driver Rob Bell.

Is someone is follwing the GT3 here?
2013 looks already magic with Loeb who get his two 2013 evo cars + the first one in Japan...
