ESCi Porsche RSR TurboMythosGR 05-21-2003, 12:14 PM I was very curous if this kit has any potential so I opened took a close look at the parts and the instruction and thought about taking some pics for everyone interested to buy this kit... I think that now with the pics anyone can see if is interested or not in the kit since being old product has nothing to do with the usual Tamyia quality... The kit I'm talking about is this: http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/240481post01.jpg Now let's take a look at the main parts... Here are some shots of the body...It has some mistakes and two big molding lines running from the start to the finish...Not too much but the front bumper needs some work! http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/2521751post01.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/6979731post02.jpg The seats look like crap I don't know why...I don't think that the original are like that... http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/1883191post03.jpg The undercariage has no detail to it but it fits great in the body it fits perfect to the body... http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/6739211post04.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/5347571post05.jpg The windshield... http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/1831131post06.jpg And the only one parts tree... http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/2107551post07.jpg The tires are like shit...Too bad molding... http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/1734811post08.jpg Decals... http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/2893761post09.jpg And the instructions...not that they are neede but... http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/8183081post10.jpg so you know now how the kits look...You know if it's up to your skill or if it has the potential... MythosGR 05-21-2003, 12:17 PM And something to help you out a little bit more take a look at the body after I filled the mold lines gave it a good sanding and sprayed a good(but not heavy...) layer of primer... http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/3990831post11.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/3105251post12.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/9083391post13.jpg And the tires after some sanding... http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/1897391post14.jpg bigfrit 05-21-2003, 03:16 PM Starting to look good! The kit all in all seems very good, except the chassis, but almost nobody will look at that, so I think there is great potential in it ! Keep building with the attention you've done the first steps, and we 'll be in for a stunning model olivier Oh and could it be possible to have some close-up pics from primered rims? Guido 05-21-2003, 05:18 PM About the older Esci kits, I build some in the past, and I have some others waiting, and although they are not as finely molded as fe. Tamiya, fitment should not be a problem. Basic kits, but with a little attention to detail, you'll end up with a fantastic replica, which not many others will have. You started very well! Keep 'em coming. ;) Layla's Keeper 05-21-2003, 06:33 PM Hey, ESCI kits can be fun. No, wait, they're a royal pain. Make something good out of this one. So to show those toolcutters what it's supposed to look like. And speaking of which, is this going to be in Martini colors or are you doing something of your own? Midnight Racer 05-21-2003, 08:26 PM Not a lot of parts. Can't wait to see it done though. tamiyarevell 05-22-2003, 02:03 AM The Porsche is so cool:flash: Please keep updating progress. Thanks MythosGR 05-22-2003, 03:05 PM Well I wasn't going to start the kit...I just did the first steps to see if it worths the money spent... I was just going to store it and built it later on... But after cleaning the body and having it for two days sitting in my desk I really want to start it after I finish the GT2... The main problem of this kit is the very basic interior and the very very plain undercarriage...But I think that with some scratch building will look great...I'm so tempted to try my hand at it...It seems like a chalenging model... Octagon of course in Martini colors... If I find inside this week a Tamiya silver and a Dupli-Color chrome(for the wheels and rollcage)I'l propably start it... Thanks for your replys...(Sorry for my english...) P.S:I'd love to see one of them built if you ahve any pics...I think Veyron has seen some pics... MythosGR 05-22-2003, 04:42 PM In case anyone is interested or anyone is going to build this model in the future here are some pages to help you! http://www.porschemania.it/evoturbo/prefazione.htm http://www.qv500.com/adsheritage911rsr.htm http://www.flat-6.net/view.php?model=911&sel=911+Turbo+Martini+Racing&tab=oview If anyone has a clear pic of the racing seat I would be grateful...I can't find a clear pic of it... P.S:research is number one step if you want a realistic model... MythosGR 05-24-2003, 07:31 AM Somone asked for the primered wheels...here they are... http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/8813722post01.jpg And here is a body shot as I'm working on it... http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/3280192post02.jpg Zwaag 05-24-2003, 07:32 AM I like that big fat ass MythosGR 05-24-2003, 07:50 AM Originally posted by Zwaag I like that big fat ass That was dirty...LoL :D :D :D :D :D :D GTI1800 05-24-2003, 10:33 AM The interior seat.... MythosGR 05-24-2003, 10:47 AM Thanks a lot you are the man! Do you,by any chance, have build this model? If yes could you post some pics please? Thanks a lot once again... Gainsbourg 05-24-2003, 11:05 AM It’s starting to gain some form. :) What an impressive look this car have. Especially the back section. Mean_B16 05-24-2003, 01:35 PM WOW, those are the biggest flares I think I have ever seen on a porsche!!! MythosGR 05-30-2003, 08:51 PM I've done some work on the RSR witch is my main project for now(with the Koenig going as a side project)... Here is some putty work to fill some gaps...The wing had a big flaw in the one side... http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/2493613post01.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/4348913post02.jpg Here is the scratch build rollcage from metal tubing and some putty joints...I was going for a full cage but I said to keep it nice and easy... http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/1805223post03.jpg I had some spare putty and I made a thing I saw in the real pics...It is some kind of protecting 'shield' dunno exactly...I think it might be a nice touch together with the rollcage and the custom-made harnesses to make the interior look more real... http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/4847693post04.jpg Here are the wheels after I sprayed them chrome...They look really cool and very close to the real thing! The same thing for some metallic parts and the rear lights(Transparent paint over chrome will look much nicer I believe...) http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/7305273post05.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/7572763post06.jpg Sorry for posting many progress pics but they might be very helpful to a newbie or someone interested building or buying the kit in the future... Hope you like it... P.S:Also bought a Tamyia TS-30 which will be the best match to the original color... P.S.2:Anmyone know if Tamyia spray can paints(and specially the TS-30) works well with humbrol primer??? 935k3 05-30-2003, 10:09 PM You are doing a nice job on the kit but the Esci whees are not accurate for the Turbo RSR they are the wheels used on the earlier non turbo versionof the car(1973)Here is a pic of the real car. http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/786071TRSR_1.jpg The Union kit's wheels are pretty accurute but should be painted black except the very outer edge of rim as you see on real car. http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/481188wheels.jpg As I have done on the one I built. http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/157635wheels2.jpg I have never seen any pics of the real car(any number or race)with the wheels in the Esci kit. Take a look at TS-17 Gloss Aluminum for the body. A good source for wheels would be the wheels from Tamiya's 936 kits, they have the proper spokes and pattern for th RSR Turbo. MythosGR 06-01-2003, 06:32 PM They have put this wheels in the kit... http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/53451473-26l.jpg I'll look with the Tamyia kit but if I can't find something I'll keep it that way... Also I've never seen photos of the RSR with the 7 number in any race... Isn't the Tamyia paint I got accurate?Should I use TS-17 instead of TS-30??? 935k3 06-01-2003, 09:52 PM TS 30 it better for representing bare metal finishes like an aluminum radiator etc. TS 17 is a gloss silver and looks better for a silver body paint on a car. TS 17 Gloss Aluminum is what Tamiya calls for(in the instruction sheet) on cars that are silver. Look at a silver car and you will see it does not look like bare metal. Here is a pic of the number 7 car and as you can see the wheels are black. The number 26 car you posted is the earlier non-Turbo carrera rsr and the Esci wheels are right for that car. bigfrit 06-02-2003, 02:00 AM Well, anyway, even with the "wrong" wheels, I must admit you're doing one hell of a job ! It's a shame there isn't many info and race pictures left from this car for reference though! Olivier MythosGR 06-02-2003, 12:44 PM I laid a nice coat of TS-30 silver in the car since I couldn't find TS-17... Also looked for the wheels but no luck...I guess I'll have to build it with these(which look very good now...).935k3 thanks for your help and your good comments...I accidentaly said 7...I have the pics from this car...I meant 9 which is the decals that the car came with...DIdi it even exist in these numbers???Dunno.... Here are some pics... http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/6149684post01.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/6023704post02.jpg These are the first coat above primer tommorow another one coat together with clear, decals and then another coat of clear... Thanks for the comments... P.S:What we need is good RSR kit with engine...I believe it could be a killer model... GTI1800 06-02-2003, 01:18 PM Hi MythosGR...., nice PORSCHE 934 you just realised..... good way.... I found some pics of this car..... http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/75249245.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/67424743.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/41309144.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/64444547.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/90213048.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/87118453.jpg And the last one is a new project.......one day..... http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/82575319.jpg Laurent from FRANCE.... chipanggo 06-03-2003, 11:08 PM Nice kit man! Good luck with that project. A warning though on ESCI. It's not that their decals don't set well, sometimes they don't stick at all. Even with the aid of decal solutions. MythosGR 07-04-2003, 10:50 AM Here is some progress on the RSR.... The finished chassis: In order to make the interior better a scratchbuilt rollcage the racing harnesses and some other details make it look better(not that I couldn't add more...fire extinguishers,wires,e.t.c.) http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/4303946post01.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/2972766post02.jpg Now the bad part...I did evrything...I used so much decal fix(by Humbrol)but I couldn't get the decal to look write on the body...Took a break and some pics and I'll try more later...But keep that in mind....Old ESCI kits decals sux big time... http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/3042576post03.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/3118666post04.jpg I'd love any advice If anyone new how I could get the decals straight...Plz... Hope you like the progress so far....more pics coming... Cychalen 07-04-2003, 10:55 AM Looking great. Sorry, can't help you with decals. I am still "afraid" of them. joecwlaw 07-04-2003, 11:12 AM Originally posted by 935k3 TS 30 it better for representing bare metal finishes like an aluminum radiator etc. TS 17 is a gloss silver and looks better for a silver body paint on a car. It's comming up preatty good. Keep us updated! Dave 935k3 07-05-2003, 12:14 AM Originally posted by MythosGR I'd love any advice If anyone new how I could get the decals straight...Plz... Hope you like the progress so far....more pics coming... Take a hot wet cloth or tissue and let it rest on the decal for a minute or two, keep it wet then gently lift a corner of decal with tweezers get more water under and carefully lift decal and reposition. Try using a hot damp tissue or cloth to press the decal down in place,it works better than solvents. If a decal doesn't stick well use white PVA glue like Micro Krystal Kleer under the decal. MythosGR 07-05-2003, 10:36 AM Thanks for your advice man...I'll try to work on this decals today... I really hope to have a good result... Thanks for your comments everyone...:) MythosGR 07-07-2003, 08:19 AM I followed everyone's advice but I had no luck with this f**** decals... I did everything hot water, patience, decal solution but they refused to cooperate... Plus using the cal fic I can't now fix my mistakes that might be fixed If decal fix wasn't applied... The decals denied to lay straight, denied to stick to the curves and of course some tore apart in my hands... Id on't know if this is general or I was unlucky but I don't reccomend attemptin the decals on this model if you are not a very experienced modeler... Here are some tips on how to apply the decals if you ever attempt too(tips I don't followed and I eneded up with this ugly result) 1.Plan carefully which decal goes where. 2.Split the car in sections and start doing it section by section.(It's better to take one week than to look like my model) 3.The kit requires some painting(which is not stated no where)to complete the racing martini theme. 4.Where ever is a curve or the decal is too big,cut the decal in smaller pieces with an exacto knife and then place it. 5.Use warm water(not too warm though since It's going to destroy the decals). 6.After all decals are placed adn dried now place the decal solution. 7.Leave it to dry for 2 days. 8.Clear coat it. 9.If everything went OK you are a lucky man and you know have a great model in your collection... Well that was my advice I'll now give you some pics...In the first pics you an see the major mistake and destroyed/shrinked decals while the last pics show more of the car and a test fit with the chassis... http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/1352317post01.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/8124467post02.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/6809687post03.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/5251227post04.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/5110277post05.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/7937167post06.jpg Hope you find my advice useful... KP60 09-01-2003, 09:30 AM Very Very Good Man! cagman 09-01-2003, 03:16 PM Combine this kit with the fujjimi enthusiast porsches, and some major scratchbuilding, i belive it could be even greater.... Bangai-o 09-02-2003, 08:54 AM Bad luck with the decals, these old kits tend to have fragile decals so don't be hard on yourself. chipanggo 09-02-2003, 11:33 PM i've built a couple of ESCI kits before and the decals really suck. :banghead: rx7king 09-03-2003, 12:42 AM the kit itself seems quite cheap, but it looks like your going to be able to make a great one out of it Midnight Racer 09-03-2003, 04:03 PM Looks great.:bigthumb: MythosGR 09-03-2003, 07:36 PM These was really a difficult project... From the plastic wing that srinked after paint for no real reason to the really bad decals...However I put some time on it and I'm in a dilema: 1.Remove the decal and try to make the paintscheme with masking...It will be difficult but rewarding but the base kit is so lame so I'm not sure it deserves it... 2.Throw it out of the window or something...J/k The second option is to paint in the some blue my GT2 is and get them together on display... Dunno I'd love some help!!!! A big thanks to everyone for it's good words...Thank you! vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
