If it's the V8 S4...hands down

If it's the TT S4...still hands down!

LOL

i'd take the S4 TT V6. The new V8's are nice but i like the styling of the older ones better.

6spd manny tranny.

i'll take the s4.

and yeah, the older tt model please... you can get so much power from them...

and i just like the sleeper look compared to the high profile merc.

understated car, overstated power. thanks... s4 please

Give me an S4 Avant, it's everything a car should be.
It's as practical, safe, luxurious and comfortable as a regular A4 Avant and it's faster then a BMW M3 on the track.
Folowing in the lines of the RS2, RS4 and RS6, it's a car you can use for everything, not just a track car, a grocery getter or a autobahn locomotive.

I’ll take the C32. At least it’s a car that’s “comfortable with itself”. There’s no pretense of it being a great drivers car, unlike the S4, which fails at that… Pischetsrieder himself criticised Audi as having no direction, or idendity, so expect some changes…

no . . . it really isnt (faster then an M3 around a track, that is)

And why would you say that?
I guess you have driven a S4?

i actually have a video of a new s4 avant being chased down by an e46 M3 after one lap, would u like to see it? (the max file size wont allow me to post it)

And? I put down faster lap times around a track, acr.no (www.acr.no), than a guy in an Prodrive STi, does that mean my Corrado is faster? No, only that he could need some more driving experience.
Same driver, same track, same day, the S4 is faster.

my apologies, after loading the video at home i found it was an rs4 being chased down by an e46 m3

by no means am i doubting the rs4's sheer speed, it is evident how badly he dusts the e46 m3 on the straights

but because the track had a lot of turns to negotiate, it was evident the rs4 didnt have the stuff to leave the m3 . . . i was able to see this partly by the comparison between braking (the m3 slowed down a lot quicker approaching a turn then the rs4) and also due to the rs4's understeer contributed to its AWD layout (it seemed the driver was using a lot more effort to turn the car and keep a solid line upon reaching the apex)

there is no doubt in my mind that had the drivers switched seats, there would be a repeat of what had just been described . . . the rs4 is a great car but it doesnt possess the ability as a track car (not sweeping course, very twisty) quite like the e46 M3

So this (http://www.yoyo.org/~andy/private/TopgearM3.wmv) is just bull then? Never mind the irritating coments made by the touchy M3 owner/fan.

Do you mind telling me the name, filetype and size of this video you have?

certainly, i forget where i got it from . . . (if u have an ftp to post it at, i will be glad to oblige)

but here it is:
it is called m3_vs_rs4
it is a .mpg filetype
and the size is 23,117 KB

btw, no topgear is not bullshit by any means . . . id appreciate if u wouldnt put words into my mouth

Deakins, which car would you go for?

flylwsi

deakins is a vw guy all the way...

and like myself, would go s4.

and i've driven both the s4 and m3.

i like the s4 wayyyy better.

Im fairly certain he would, but as a driving enthusiast I wonder which one of the two a VW man would go for. As a sheer driving experience the M3 is reported to be some way ahead of the S4, though this comes from what ive read, my demon cuz who’s driven both, and my experience with BMW M’s.

Well, I would buy an S4 Avant, no doubt, and I probably will, in a few years.
But if someone would borrow me one of the two for a week, no questions asked, with access to a track and free supplies of tires, an M3 would be nice

And BlOOe46, I'll set up an FTP server as soon as my router gets here.

Thats good to know :)

I'd take the M3 any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Almost as easy to live with as the S4 and twice the fun on a track! :D

Come back and tell me what you think after you totaled the car an early January morning, on your way to the mountain with a wife, three kids, three pair of skis, a few snowboards and a shitload of various crap in the trunk :finger:

Agree with Jimster; where is the M3, and why is the S-type R there? It's more of a competitor to the M5, than the m3!

Choose your answer:

1) Im not married, i dont have kids, and there are no mountains in or around London :finger:

2) I wouldnt be stupid enough to cane it in these conditions :finger: , and TC would safeguard against minor mis-haps

3) If safety is your concern Deakins, buy a Volvo! I still have some life left in me! anyway, if i wanted a lifeless driving experience i wouldnt shell out all that money for an S4, i'd just get an A3 and save all the cash :p

NONONO! this is wrong, Crayzayjay! Saab's are safer than Volvos! :D

Bah, Carpassion Grand Prix.

I'm not arguing the M3's capabilities at a track, I'm only saying the S4 is faster.

Further; new video, same drivers, same cars, different track: http://www.emm3.de/videos/videos/runde_mit_carl.mpg

BlOOe46

wow, after viewing that video i would say both drivers were equally impressive . . . the rs4 driver for battling the understeer so well (and taking some nice lines i may add), and the M3 driver for really handing it to him on the turns (despite the fact the rs4 would easily gain on the straights . . . 120hp advantage does help)

so r u making the claim that the s4 avant is more capable than the M3? i think on the straights it would really come down to the driver, but the M3 would own when it comes down to narrow twisties . . .
