passenger side rug wetrecox286 10-02-2010, 02:08 PM 2000 Venture: Found that the rug was wet on passenger side. Pulled up the carpet, and it is drying out, but would like to know if any one has a long term fix for this. If I put things back together without repairing the cause, I will be right back in the soup. What to do? Bob 534BC 10-03-2010, 08:33 AM searching AF forums here is the best way. I spent many hrs looking for causes (on the web) because there can be 2-4 causes. Drain running thru firewall to engine compartment, windshield, holes in floor, ect. I used a garden hose to find my leaks. I fixed them with urethane sealant and a rubber elbow (for the drain) recox286 10-03-2010, 08:41 PM Ok. Thx for input. Guess I'll be digging deeper... Bob old_master 10-03-2010, 09:18 PM Is it water or engine coolant? If it's coolant, the heater core is probably leaking. Do the windows fog up? Is there a film on the inside of the windshield? Can you smell coolant with the heater or defroster on? merc81 10-04-2010, 06:55 AM Also check the condition of the rubber door seal where it seams togeather on the floor right where your feet kick it. The front fender will almost guide water right into the door hinge area which flows inside if that seal is damaged at all. I recently found this pathway for water ingress while I had the inner wheel well covers removed for cleaning--lots of trapped mud and gunk just behind the door hinges that is held back only by the door seal. recox286 10-04-2010, 07:37 PM So far, I have found a Chevy bulletin dealing with the problem. Seems that the A/C drain goes straight out of the firewall. Water coming out of the drain, wicks back into the car following the outside of the pipe where it comes thru the sheetmetal. Chevy's fix is a rubber elbow (PT # 22542866) which basically provides a drip edge lower than the drain pipe. There may be other issues, but none that Chevy admits to. Since There is only clean, clear water on the floor, I'm going to go for their "fix" and see what transpires. Bob merc81 10-05-2010, 08:39 AM I would be surprised if that was the problem, but here is a photo of that drain pipe through the firewall: http://cemrweb.cemr.wvu.edu/~mathews/venture/trans-replace/heater-drain.png If water is getting into the cabin through the sheet metal in this area, I think a wet carpet is the least of the problem. Perhaps its a plugged drain and water is leaking from the cabin vents? I'm still voting for the door seal. recox286 10-08-2010, 06:00 PM When I lifted the rug up, most of the water was middle to left side of the passenger floor, and all under the rug. Top of the rug felt dry to touch. Also, the right side of the floor was barely wet at all, and dry at the right side of the car. So, I'm thinking that the door seal is OK at this point. There is no noticeable build up of dirt at the door post which would indicate a door seal leak. Taste test of the liquid shows that it is pure clear water. I'm guessing that it is the A/C.
