Wild About Cars is intended to be the beginnings of a super automotive resource. We are looking for people, participation – and solid information
I wanted to take this opportunity to make a pitch for a new website that's starting up – one that can become a huge resource for you. This website, www.wildaboutcars.com (http://www.wildaboutcars.com/) has been put together by a bunch of car nuts - guys who recognized that there needs to be a central storehouse for all that info out there that keeps the auto hobbyist going.
First, let me say that WAC is not intended to replace any forum. Forums are a great place to meet and talk and ask questions, etc. and that is great.
What WAC is all about is about being that storehouse for knowledge both via reproducible , downloadable copies of original factory materials, brochures, ads and even extracts from car magazines. We are also building an encyclopedia of facts figures and pictures . All this material is downloadable by any member of WAC. Everything has been restored to "like new" condition, so when you pull it down, it is as if you had an original copy in your hand.
So if you are looking for extracts from a Service Manual (say you don't want your copy to get greasy fingerprints on it), or you'd like to see a printable copy of your favorite ad for your car, or the brochure that just can't be found anymore, or maybe you'd like to read what Hot Rod Magazine said about your 66 Chevelle, then we want to make WAC is the place to go. You can see examples of this at http://wildaboutcarsonline.com/cgi-bin/globaltemplate.cgi?id=11 (http://wildaboutcarsonline.com/cgi-bin/globaltemplate.cgi?id=11) Check out the Oldsmobile sections, asthere are good examples in place.
But please – register first (it's FREE)!
We also are starting out on a list of "experts". What we are doing that is a bit different is that we are posting a listing of each person's expertise – by car or type of knowledge - and even giving you a link to their website (if they have one) and giving you one-click access to their e-mail. This way you can look at a person's background and determine if they are the right one to ask your question. You can see how we have this broken out by going to http://wildaboutcarsonline.com/cgi-bin/pub9990262549556.cgi?categoryid=9970278787611 (http://wildaboutcarsonline.com/cgi-bin/pub9990262549556.cgi?categoryid=9970278787611) .
We are doing a lot more, but we think that these things alone are worth you dropping by and joining up and helping out. Check us out. You can go to www.wildaboutcars.com (http://www.wildaboutcars.com/) and click on the "register" button and see more of what we are doing – then go register. There are a lot of moving parts to WAC, but if you stick to the "Downloads", "Advice" and the "News and Stuff" buttons, you'll get a flavor for what we are trying to do.
We are seriously looking for people to participate in WAC AND help us grow by offering up either expertise, or info, or materials that you might have that we don't. We are looking for reproducible manuals, factory brochures, ads, technical bulletins, and hard data like production figures and ID info.
If you are interested in helping, or have questions, please contact me at bob.gerometta@wildaboutcars.com (bob.gerometta@wildaboutcars.com) .
And when you do join - you will get a "Where the Heck Am I?" document that is a guide around the website.
