My '06 Grand Prix 3.8L has started making some new sounds recently, first it makes a whirring sound that changes pitch as I accelerate, I speed up the pitch goes up.
And the other noise is a straining sound as I turn, it's more pronounced when I turn left, but it is still audible when I turn right too.
Thanks for any help

It would help to post your mileage. Alternator or drive belt tensioner and pulleys are common noise sources for the engine. Have you checked power steering fluid level?

It's got just over 53,000 miles, and as dumb as it makes me feel to say it, I can't find the power steering resivoir. The manual says it's behind the alternator, but I searched the whole engine over and couldn't find it.
I did notice that my coolant reservoir tank has a leak, and was looking for parts at autozone, and napa, but couldn't find one. Do you think I'll need to go to a salvage yard for that? Or could I just repair it with some epoxy?

Looking from right side of engine (passenger side) it is below the alternator more towards the back. You should see it using a flashlight or good lighting source.
For the reservoir try the GM dealer for new or for used Ed Morad Parts Co at his EBay store.

take the belt off , spin the alternater pully ,should spin for 3 or 4 seconds , should be quit, also check power steering pully for play , could also take it for a spin around the block with the belt off to see if the noise is still there
