Can anyone recommend a suitable engine oil for a 1998 Primera Sedan( INFINITY G20) P11 engine 1800cc. At start-up there is a heavy noise which I suspect is coming form the hydraulic lifters, but dies away quickly. Can that noise be coming form another source other than the lifters or I am using the wrong grade of oil?:grey:

My 2000 G20 was making a wierd barking noise when it started too. They said this was a common problem and that oil had leaked into my started motor and it needed to be replaced. Don't know how true that is, but whatever they did fixed the problem and it hasn't returned.

I'm not sure if the 1.8 uses a timing chaing, but that sounds like timing chain chatter, usually not harmful but you can get a new tensioner (don't know how much they run new) and it calms that down a bit...

Sounds like it could be the timing chain tensioner.

Why dont people answer these posts.
More than likely it will be the timing chain tensioner. if the noise is there for 2-5 seconds after start up.

I thought that happened on all P10/P11's... Its the delay before oil reaches the top of the motor.. happends for like.. 1-2 seconds right ?
