In progress - Tamiya VW New Beetleshieldwulf 05-18-2003, 10:50 AM This is a photo of my semi-completed VW New Beetle. I temporarily used the motorized chassis from another Tamiya New Beetle, just for photo shooting. The body is painted in Tamiya spray Italian Red and photo contrast is enhanced with Adobe Photoshop. I have yet to complete the chassis painting & assembly, and the interior passenger compartment an dashboard. As for the body shell I have completed everything except putting on the antenna, which I am still apprehensive as I know if I spill glue or if the antenna drops before the glue dries... http://www.toycube.com/gallery/vw_newbeetle/vw_beetle03.jpg As per my earlier thread on chassis painting, I am having a hard time to make the chassis paint job look "acceptable". Anyway, this is my first attempt at painting and modelling a car. I did this with tips from what I have read in AF and esp. thanks to folks like "primera-man", "the syndicate", "daggerlee" and other regulars. njh 05-18-2003, 11:05 AM Nice shine you have there. or was the shine make using photoshop? shieldwulf 05-18-2003, 11:11 AM Yes, the shine is helped by photoshop (so I cheated :D), otherwise I found the photo too dark. Below are the shots without "curve" correction. http://www.toycube.com/gallery/vw_newbeetle/vw_beetle01.jpg http://www.toycube.com/gallery/vw_newbeetle/vw_beetle02.jpg RaceMySS_454 05-18-2003, 11:24 AM lookin great even without the photoshop help  RyanGiorgio 05-18-2003, 12:44 PM Originally posted by RaceMySS_454 lookin great even without the photoshop help  I second that. Great job. -Pille- 05-18-2003, 01:17 PM Thats a cool Beetle :coolguy: Nice work! -Pille- shieldwulf 05-18-2003, 01:28 PM Thanks for the compliments. This is my first car model kit (to be completed yet) and I chose the Tamiya new beetle because it is soooo cute. I also choose Tamiya because the kit is so sharp and accurate. I always dreamt of seeing a beetle in chilli red unfortunately those red new beetles I see on the roads in Singapore are of a certain hue that is slightly dull and off the primary red colour. And thats why I choose Tamiya Italian Red for this new beetle --- to fulfill my dream in 1/24 scale :D zerrocool 05-18-2003, 02:17 PM Originally posted by shieldwulf This is my first car model kit :eek2: :eek2: i wish my first model looks like that even the models that i make right now! you are VERY skilled!!! great clean job bigfrit 05-19-2003, 02:11 AM I love the work you did on this nice beetle ! I have completed airbrushing and assembling the dashboard & steering wheel. Here is the photo: http://www.toycube.com/gallery/vw_newbeetle/dashboard.jpg You can see that the VW logo on the steering wheel is little too low (should be directly on imprinted circle instead), but too late the decal has dried. RaceMySS_454 07-10-2003, 01:04 PM wow lookin good......its ok with the decal.....you can try to rewet it since it is a small one.....if not than hey....we learn from mistakes:bigthumb: Slipknot 07-10-2003, 04:59 PM :bigthumb: shieldwulf 08-02-2003, 07:11 PM Finally! After ordering a new chassis replacement part for my melted and failed paint work (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=104621), this time I really took a lot of patience and time (Thanks to all your advices and encouragements). This shows me doing the masking for the bottom part of the chassis. http://www.toycube.com/gallery/vw_newbeetle/chassis_masking_01.jpg The result after airbrushing with Tamiya Chrome Silver. http://www.toycube.com/gallery/vw_newbeetle/chassis_completed_02.jpg Here is the chassis with completed painting. The whole chassis was airbrushed using Tamiya Acrylic Semi-gloss Black, followed by masking to airbrush Tamiya Enamel Chrome Silver. Edges with paint oversprays are touched/cleaned up using a fine paint brush dipped in Tamiya Enamel thinner. http://www.toycube.com/gallery/vw_newbeetle/chassis_completed_01.jpg Phreak 08-02-2003, 07:51 PM Well done :bigthumb: Can't wait to see more.. :) primera man 08-02-2003, 09:28 PM Some great time and work going on this model :bigthumb: :bigthumb: chaos 08-03-2003, 01:59 AM This is turning out to be nice little car. Nice choice of colour! It does seem to a little dark for Italian Red though, well as compared to the Ferrrari I doing which is painted the same colour.
