Basic Information Please..

Does anyone know when CHEVY first came out with the V6 on their
full size Trucks....I'm interested in getting an old stepside, but I want it
with a V6...I guess...early 80's...before the body style changed...

Thanks...if anyone can get me some info or links I would greatly
