Camry LE 4cyl/2.2L 5F-SE - which part to buy

Got a '96 originally sold in California (presumably with a specific pollution control package). Now need to replace air intake hose. Car's now in a county of another state with no auto pollution control/emission regulations. So, can I buy the replacement part that is manufactured for cars outside of California, or do I need to buy the part specified for California cars? I ask because I notice that parts for non-California cars are less expensive.

You will most likely have to buy the part specifically designed for your car. There are exceptions, but if there are two part numbers, one for non-C and one for C cars, then you have to either determine if the difference is significant or buy the C part. Unless you have access to both parts for comparison, it will be difficult to determine the difference. If the part was electronic, like a sensor, then you really have no choice.

I had a friend who had a 96 5SFE with California emissions with the exact same problem. If I remember correctly the California emmisions air intake hose had another small port on it for some other emissions device. With that in mind, I would say you have to stick with the California emissions part.

The only other thing I can suggeest is to try going to a dealer's parts department and see if you can see the 2 hoses on their computer screen, so you can compare them.
