002 For Sale (by Gemballa North America?)

08-16-2010, 05:01 PM
It doesn't look like anyone brought this up yet.

I don't believe it but maybe someone can correct me:
wrong mirrors
door open button is recessed
online ad has it listed as a 1995 model (002 is from 1993) and their own description goes on to say production began in 1992

The price is/was prophetic since 062 sold for almost the same amount a day later than when this ad appeared. The Gemballa USA website seems pretty old, copyrighted in 2008, and doesn't list anything about McLarens on it. And given Gemballa's recent public trouble, this ad is very dubious.

Anyone close to Malibu?

This was just brought to my attention over on TS. I'm rather skeptical of it myself. You can ignore the photos completely I believe as that car is #013 and the images are 'borrowed' from BingoSport's ad last January for that car.

The ad also says the car is silver which should rule out #002. Perhaps the ad is for #001, but that was the 3rd car built.

I've already sent an email to the contact in the ad asking for further information. I'm about 20 minutes from Malibu but I'm pretty sure the car is not there. Will report back if I receive a response that clears any of this up.

I'd also agree that the asking price is too low if you're comparing it to the sale price of #062 last evening. Certainly the "first" F1 with 1/10th the mileage should trade for more as long as it has been well cared for.

The ad has been altered, it no longer references the car as "the first"

The McLaren F1 ia a supercar engineered and produced by the Mclaren Car's , a subsidiary of the British McLaren Group that, among others, owns McLaren Mercedes Formular One team The Car features a 6.1-litre 60*V12 BMW V12 engine and it was conceived as an exercise in creating what its designers hoped would be considered the ulimate road car.only 100 cars were manufactured , 65 of those were street cars 5 were LMs, 3 GTs and the rest were GTR racing models Production began in 1992 , prior to the sale of the McLaren F1 fife prototypes were built The McLaren was the fastes production Car ever built (having achieved a top speed of 240.14 mph 386.5 kmuntil surpassed in 2005 by the Koenigsegg CCR and then the Bugatti Veyron a few moths later. The Car remains as one of the most popular modern supercars, and is quickly securing a spot among the most famous cars ever made,

I suspect this is another ad for #029. The listed price is about what I heard the asking price for that car is and the mileage is identical too. I wouldn't call the color silver, but I'm sure no one wants to call it brown either. ;)

I think we need to do some more digging.............

I'd buy 029 in a heartbeat but damn F1 prices really are getting to seriously high values now.

I did receive an email back from the seller a few days later. Without directly addressing the question on the chassis number he said that the car was no longer for sale because the owner had a change of heart. At that point the ad was already marked "sold".
