Me personally like the 98 to 02 models. But if your looking stay around 00 or 02, just for reasons of bugs being worked out for the first two years of this model. There is not much difference between the Z28 and SS model. They both have the same engine(LS1) but one has a ram air induction (SS). Now when you start talking about SLP now your into a package of the SS. I could go on for days, but if you need more let me know.

The first thing you should check is the person you are going to buy from. How old they are, if they have flogged it. (raced) Also ask if they have done any mods, if so what did they do. If they have done engin mods, did they do it or had someone do it. Transmission auto or manual, same ask about mods and maintance. Mileage, was it a daily driver or weekend car. Check the tires front and rear. The fronts shouldn't have any excessive wear on the inside or outside. The rear shouldn't be bald (burnouts). Ask to take if for a drive, checking the steering, transmittion, clutch (if a standard), you have to just feel the car. Check all fluid levels, oil, trans, clutch (if a standard), brake, anti-freeze. Just ask alot of questions. Is this your first car? I need to know how much you know about cars so i can give you more advice if needed.

chevyman's got you off on a good start.

If this is only your second car, ehh, be prepared to start learning. Personally I wouldn't recommend as half the motor is under the dash practically. It's a lot easier to work on when you know what you're 'feeling' around for when you cant see it.

I live in Milwaukee, Wi, and I have a 2000 SS, SLP with 23000 miles on it. Stored winters, no salt or snow. T-tops, black with black leather. New tires.
I am 44 Years old and the previous owner (new) was around the same as well. No mods or never "Hot-rodded".

Dont do it American cars are the worst cars in the world. I have a camaro, here it goes. overheating, window motors, door locks dreak, fan motor, belts, ac dont work, radiator leaks, engine leaks, ball joints, rack and pinion, door windows, ratlle, u will go through a full tank at 238 miles, in winter is very dangerouns to drive in. wind sheld wippers dont work properly. I replaced water pump.....3 alternators, electrical problems. Go with a Japanise they last alot longer. like 200 k miles. Not like American 60k miles. I am an engineer this car..... well all American cars are Junk from a design and mechanical point of view. Go with a Hiundai it will outlast any American car for sure.
