Another power window problem

I have a 01 GTP and just this morning my driver side window made a 'pop' sound when I was rolling it up. Now the window appears to have disconnected itslelf from the track (whatever this is called). I can still hear the motor working when I use the switch so it appears to be strictly a mechanical problem. The window will freely move up or down by hand.
Please help with what it will take for a DIY fix. Last year my rear window had a similar failure and was over $400 to have fixed, frankly I don't have the spare cash for that kind of repair bill again. I've never tackled a power window before so go gently on this newbie!
Thanks for any help.

Sounds like you need a regulator. Once you pull the door panel off you'll have a pretty good idea of what you need.

I agree that you most likely need a window regulator. They are cable operated, and the cable guide probably broke.

I had to replace two on my 2000 Grand Prix SE 3.1L. It was fairly easy. One reason was they used a cheap plastic piece to hold it and it snapped causing the windows the fall when a friend slammed my door. The driver side had a frayed cable and it got stuck around the pulley.
Anyway, the ones on eBay are pretty cheap and really easy to fix. Just get yourself a pack of those plastic clips from Autozone or Advance as they will break easy when you pull the panel off.

You can get a fairly decent regulator thru Ebay for a reasonable price, around $50 if I recall. I had to replace 2 regulators on my 2000 GP and posted some photos and help guide in the Tips and Maintenance section here. Hope it helps. It will take about an hour to do the job. Definitely saves some money on this job. Good luck.
