Hi there,

i just wanted to get people's opinion on which would be a better car for my son. Im looking at a 2002 Lancer with 65,000 miles and a 2004 Honda Civic with 128,000 miles. i know the mileage may have a big difference but some people say that mileage doesnt matter but i dont know. please give me your opinion on which is better thanks!

Completely depends on the individual car and owners. If the Lancer was owned by a young guy with a lead foot and no idea what 'oil change' means the lower miles can be completely offset. Same goes for the Civic although they are more forgiving as far as maintenance. Also depends on your son, if he is 16 in a Lancer with a spoiler, he may be more likely to get in trouble with street racing than in a regular old Civic. Best to talk to the owners and find out what each was used for on a daily basis and go from there. And why they never took the Lancer anywhere :)

Civics have a much larger aftermarket than a run of the mill lancer. If you're worried about your son driving like he has a race car, I think the lancer would be a safer bet.

That being said, as an enthusiast I would suggest the civic. If your son is fairly responsible and is someone who enjoys tinkering or will want to modify his vehicle, a civic will be much easier to do so with. I think most teenage boys would enjoy the civic more.
