I replaced my blown up 2.2l 4cyl with the Japanese import version of the same motor. Now I am getting a cam sensor error and the new engine sputters during acceleration. My mechanic told me there is no cam sensor on the JDM motor and he has no idea how to get around the issue. Is there any way to get around the problem or is there a solution to it?

Can you get an ECM from the same make/model and year car the engine was from?
