transmission sealgreencamery 07-17-2010, 06:58 PM The transmission seal failed going up hill on the freeway in 115 degree heat. The Toyota Dealer said my car is still under the extended warranty I purchased. But they will not honor the warranty's it is not a defective part. I will be calling the warranty center to appeal but i am trying to get more information first. The only T.S.B i can find is for torque converter shutter. Witch is one of the locations for the suspected bad seal. I have complained in the past as the trany had intermittent shutter. The service person blew it off and i did not pursue it. can any one advise me any help will be appreciated. Mike Gerber 07-17-2010, 10:21 PM What year is the car? How many miles are currently on the car? Is this a Toyota or aftermarket warranty? Mike greencamery 07-18-2010, 11:54 AM It is a 2007 camry v6 with 90 thousand miles. The warranty is toyota factory platinum plus 100 thousand miles five years. I had the dealer check and toyota said the warranty is still valid. I haven't contacted the warranty center yet to see how the dealer reported the issue. but the dealer was saying different things one was that that warranty only covers production defects like would be covered under a recall . It is real upsetting as i paid around $1700 for it. Also i just want the seal replaced as i drove only 100 yards with the leek and I believe the transmission was not damaged. They tried to tell me i need more work. Mike Gerber 07-18-2010, 01:05 PM First I would try to talk directly to the dealer's service director/manager, especially if you purchased the extended warranty from that dealer. If you don't get anywhere talking to the service director, I would then try to contact the warranty center yourself. The number should be somewhere on the warranty paperwork. If they don't offer any help, I would then contact Toyota corporate at 1-800-331-4331 and speak to customer service. Toyota calls it the customer experience center. Be calm, but firm when you speak to all these people. Write down all the facts and any other pertinent information so you will have it in front of you. Good luck. Mike greencamery 07-23-2010, 07:28 PM I got the car repaired sort of. The Toyota dealer in ST George UT replaced the seal connecting the torque converter and put it back together. I find out the original problem was not fixed. The transmission oil still pours out fast. The dealer said the seal on the transmission pump is bad and the transmission needs to be completely dissembled to change the seal. I called Toyota warranty and told them i do not want this dealer to touch my car. They said since there is no other dealer I can take it to a non Toyota shop they have contracted. I must pay the tow and I still have to go through the warranty approval process. I let you know if it ever gets repaired. I am wondering about two things? I never herd of quarts of oil leaking out so fast. also dos the whole transmission really need to be dissembled. Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
