94 camry le 4 cyl 2.2l Starts up fine. Runs for awile. When it gets up to normal temp(not overheating) it dies. Then I must wait till it cools COMPLETELY before it will start again. I was told it was the ignition coil. replaced that, not it. HELP!

If you replaced the coil with a new coil (not one from a salvage yard) and that didn't cure the problem, I would next check the coolant temperature sensor for being out of range. It may be telling the computer the car is still cold and creating a mixture too rich for a warm engine. To do that you will need a digital volt/ohmeter and the specs from any manual. If you don't have a manual you can download one for free at the top of this forum's home page. Download the generation 3 Toyota factory service manual. If that checks out OK, I would next check the fuel pump pressure when warm.

PS: When asking for help on a forum it's best to give current mileage and any recent repairs and maintenance.

94 camry has OBD 2 is your check engine light on? if so what codes do you have? the plug is located behind the door for the fuse box located on the left side of the steering wheel ...remove the small change holder and the fuse box is behind it...next to the fuse box is you OBD 2 plug......last one I had this problem with turned out to be the ECU was bad.....I found one at "PULL-A-PART" for $23....or check with autocomputerexchange.com they are in florida...usually around $199 ....good luck

94 and 95 Camry 4 cylinder engines were still OBDI. The V6 engines for part of the 94 model year and all 95's were OBDII. The original poster has a I4 5SFE engine in his car. He can still read the code(s), if any, using the paper clip method, so your point is still a valid one.

MikeWill the paper clip work for '00 model Camry's? I have a 4 & 6 cyl with lights. I've done it in the past with other cars, is there a spot you can direct me to show how to do it?

No, starting with model year 1996, all cars sold in the USA were OBDII. You will need special code reader or scanner to read the codes on these vehicles. However, many auto parts stores, including Autozone, will read the codes for you for free. Call around to a few auto parts stores in your area and ask if they offer this free service. When they read the codes for you, jot down the code number(s) and report them back here and someone should be able to give you some direction. Some auto parts store clerks have a habit of telling the customer what they think needs to be replaced and not giving the code numbers.

This website has explanations of codes and goes into detail on many. Just click "Trouble Codes" at upper left. This will give you what are termed generic codes applicable to most vehicles. Click the manufacturer emblem to get manufacturer specific codes.
