I am repeating most of an earlier message because the way I wrote the subject line might be limiting responses. Today I drove a BMW wagon. It kicked ass and took names. I know a sedan is cooler and would depreciate slower, but otherwise is there any reason to prefer the sedan to a wagon?

I'd pick the wagon. In Norway the estate versions depreciate much slower than sedans (same with diesels), so that's one plus for me, though.. H*ll, I even like the looks of the wagon better than the sedan, I think.. You get much more luggage space as well..

True wagons have not been as popular in the states as sedans. Too many people buying SUV and bigger SUV. If gas prices go up again that trend might slow.

I went back to a wagon because I wanted more storage room. (replacing an older 7'series 4 door) I didnt want to get a truck or SUV, but it sucks having to bring stuff home from the hardware store in the sedan or loading up the surf boards and heading to the beach. This gives us more options. One large sedan, one wagon and 2 bikes.

I like the look for the BMW wagons. They handle well. Only had mine a few weeks so cant tell you about maint. cost.

The choice depends on how youll use the car and if you have other vehicles.
