ok, i'm a little pissed...help (warranty)Nismoboy1 11-03-2001, 02:00 AM  ok, my car started acting real funny today...so here's the deal...when i start it up, it starts to make a real funny sound, like someone threw rocks in my motor, so i'm driving around and notice my car shaking a little when i'm almost at a complete stop, so i thougt it was really weird, so i'm at a stop light and i tried to go when the light hit green, and it wouldn't until i hit somewhere around 3K rpms and my car almost wanted peel out and sh*t, so i'm like WTF!!! (btw its an auto), really weird and the sound is still there, it sounds like my tranny is slipping...so i tell my parents that i''m gonna take my car in and they start bitching about how its because i put wheels and sh*t on my car...but for some reason i think its kinda true... so my question is, whats the dealership gonna say about this...is my tranny still under warranty even if i put wheels on my car? i mean its all connected so i figure the dealership could very well blame it on my wheels...and are my parents right? i'm afraid i'm not gonna hear the last of it from my folks:( FYI, my car is a 2001 P11 auto, with 18" wheels that weigh about 24lbs per wheel for the wheels alone, and i have about 19K pampered miles on it, with oil changes every 3K miles ales 11-03-2001, 02:54 AM John, I'd be *really* surprised if your new wheels will void your warranty. It's too ridiculous. P10DET 11-03-2001, 08:42 AM Originally posted by ales John, I'd be *really* surprised if your new wheels will void your warranty. It's too ridiculous. Agreed. That would be BS. If the stealer gives you grief, I'd go to the SEMA web site. They have resources for fighting dealers trying to void your warranty. Voiding the drivetrain portion of your warranty due to wheels would create such a dangerous precedent that I don't think they would do it. Hell, all you'd have to prove is that the manufacturer uses the same size wheels anywhere else in the world. Mrcoilover 11-03-2001, 10:17 AM That shouldn't void the warranty. If they say it does. Put you foot up their asses, b/c that is BS. It's not your wheels causing the problem. Chris 11-03-2001, 10:23 AM They most likely will say the wheels void the warranty. If your wheels weigh more, then they will be adament. If possible, put the old ones on before you go in, to save some trouble. Mrcoilover 11-03-2001, 10:26 AM smart idea! Mythos 11-03-2001, 11:45 AM Does anyone know if wheels are responsible for tranny problems? John, Let us know what happens and what the cause of the problem was. Thanks Nismoboy1 11-03-2001, 12:35 PM well, i probably won't know what the problem is until monday, cause they said their isn't gonna be any techs in until monday...i just hope they wont give me any hassle about the wheels, also i've only had the car since thanksgiving last year, so its only been like 11 months!!! but i've put some miles on it, 19K... has their been any reports on this happening on the newer g20's cause it just seems to weird for a newer car to be doing stuff like this already...:( GtRider 11-03-2001, 01:20 PM the 18's that you have are they heavy? if so it probably killed your tranny. because of the excess wheel weight. put your stocks back on then take it back to the stealaship. Mrcoilover 11-03-2001, 03:15 PM Originally posted by Nismoboy1 :FYI, my car is a 2001 P11 auto, with 18" wheels that weigh about 24lbs per wheel for the wheels alone, and i have about 19K pampered miles on it, with oil changes every 3K miles Don't you think that everybody that has big rims would have the same problem. Big rims don't mess up the tranny. Just slows you down a little. Mythos 11-03-2001, 03:53 PM yeah but, what effect does weight have against the tranny?, if any at all. Mrcoilover 11-03-2001, 03:59 PM Originally posted by Mythos yeah but, what effect does weight have against the tranny?, if any at all. Its gonna make your engine work harder to get the car going. You will get a little hp loss, but that should be it. If the wheels are too big it could affect the suspension if anything. Kinda like carrying extra luggage all the time, sorta. A380Driver 11-03-2001, 05:18 PM Weight of the wheels shouldnt mean anything. What if you put an extra person in the front seat with you...does that mean that you will break the tranny? nahh... ales 11-03-2001, 05:41 PM Not as simple as that. Heavier wheels add to the unsprung weight of the car (unsuspended), which has a different effect on the car than a passenger. But it shouldn't have any relevance here - heavy wheels *might* affect suspension, but tranny... Highly improbable, IMO. There are a few automatics here, and I doubt any of them had problems with wheel weight messing up the gearbox... Just take it in (although to save you some unnecessary headache you might want to put stockers on, if you have them. If not - you can borrow something light from Geo :):):)) Nismoboy1 11-03-2001, 06:00 PM i'm really getting convinced that the dealership can't really say sh*t about my wheels because you gotta think the newer g20's can come with either 15's or 16 in wheels and the dealership near me even offers a set of 17's with the newer ones, and those are chrome also...i'm sure those are a lot heavier than mine Chris 11-03-2001, 09:38 PM My uncle reads a fair bit about about off-roadinbg. The things that seem to eat trannys are too much power, and 400lb wheels dont really affect the tranny too bad. I dont think your wheels are at fault here, its just a piece of shoddy workmanship on Infinitis part (it happens to the best of us) Nismoboy1 11-03-2001, 10:14 PM Originally posted by Chris My uncle reads a fair bit about about off-roadinbg. I dont think your wheels are at fault here, its just a piece of shoddy workmanship on Infinitis part (it happens to the best of us) shoddy? hmm...kinda harsh words lol...don't get me wrong but this will not have any effect on how i feel about infiniti's, i love them, they are great cars and i plan to stick with them because of their quality... this, i see as just one of those things that just happens, just rememebr not every single car can be built the exact same, but it sucks that mine had to be a little messed up Nismoboy1 11-03-2001, 10:16 PM Originally posted by Chris (it happens to the best of us) totally agreed dav2215 11-04-2001, 04:47 PM this might be stupid but my auto was doing that for a while because the transmission fluid was empty. i remember it driving like it was a two year old trying to drive stick and you would press the gas and it wouldnt kick into gear until about 3500 rpm Chris 11-04-2001, 07:56 PM My uncles 87 nissan truck lost its tranny fluid. It was very rough when shifting. Its a good thing he doesnt care about it... (something sharp hit my my tran. fluid pan and thats the reason it was leaking) dav2215 11-04-2001, 10:18 PM i mean it was my tranny that was making noises sorry im tired Nismoboy1 11-05-2001, 09:01 PM UPDATE ON MY CAR: infiniti did a diagnosis and they sound they found metal or metallic pieces in my tranny!!! sooooo...they ordered a new tranny and they're gonna replace it, ETA is not known and still haven't said anything about the wheels, so i'm happy about that, but still kinda pissed that a newer car like mine is already fuckin up on me, oh well Mythos 11-05-2001, 09:14 PM That sucks dude, but the bright side to this is that they're gonna take care of it which is cool. good luck Chris 11-06-2001, 02:32 PM At least its getting fixed. My spep-grandparents recently leased a Taurus, and the tranny went. The dealer came up with some crap, and siad they could return the car or pay 4000 bucks to fix it. So they returened it (they had had it for 6 months, so they lost the downpayment). My step-grandpa, he is a wimp noodle, and he always thinks the dealer is giving him a good deal. But heah, you get a nice new tranny. So go do some really crazy driving!!!!! Nismoboy1 11-06-2001, 03:01 PM Originally posted by Chris But heah, you get a nice new tranny. So go do some really crazy driving!!!!! lol haha, yeah right...how about neutral dropping it outta the infiniti parking lot lol (probably not a good idea) Chris 11-07-2001, 03:08 PM lol haha, yeah right...how about neutral dropping it outta the infiniti parking lot lol (probably not a good idea) :hehehe: No tranny for you:smoka: MachDAD 11-08-2001, 04:48 AM Yours wheels arn`t going to make any difference to your tranny. If thats what is wrong with your ride. But you have to be one step ahead and take it to the dealer looking as standard a possible. If they can row out of spending money they will. Don`t give them the ammo to do so. I think you could go on all day about weights and effects on load and drive etc etc. But lets face it Nissan don`t build crap, thats why we own so many. Your car is designed maybe not with 18 inch wheels in mind but a tolerance to some pretty demanding driving conditions so don`t worry. :smoker: vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
