My Camry transmission is leaking on the front near the bell housing. Is $600 too much to have this repaired. I'm not concerned with the age of the car and what the value is compared to $600 to fix it. I cannot afford a new car note right now and so I have to fix it.

Depends on what is leaking out. From what you describe, it sounds like this is a rear main oil seal leak, which involves removing the engine from the transmission and installing a new seal...alot of labor for a little part.

Anything else and I'd suggest checking the engine oil and transmission fluid pans, making sure they are torqued correctly and are not leaking due to broken seals. Do a comparison test to see what is leaking out...compare the leaked fluid with the color and smell of the oil and transmission fluid dipsticks.

If it is leaking oil, and if allowed by your owner's manual, you might try switching to a thicker viscosity oil (from 5W-30 to 10W-30) to help reduce the leak rate. But this only helps when it is a small drip and mainly after the engine cools.
