My 2000 rodeo is slipping?
06-27-2010, 05:56 PM
I just noticed last night that my transmission was slipping in 3rd gear, it's an automatic. I added just about a quart of transmission fluid today....took a little drive and it still seems to be having the same problem? Any other ideas on what might be causing this besides needing to get a new/rebuilt transmission?

The fluid is at the proper level now, then?

Yes, it's at the proper level now. Does it take any time for the fluid to circulate through the transmission?

Nope. Sounds like you have an internal trans issue. Wish I could help more...

My 2000 4x4 is doing the exact same thing. My tranny was rebuilt about 40K ago but it looks like it's going out again.
Strange thing is that it works fine for the first 15 minutes, but after the car warms up it starts slipping into 3rd. I tried some Lucas Stop to see if that would help but it hasn't. I was thinking I might try to find some high viscocity synthetic transmission fluid that will hold it's viscocity better when warm. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions here?

I just started having the same issue with my 2001 Passport. My trans works fine in 1st and 2nd gear but when it gets to third it seems like it engages and then immediately disengages. Can still feel the care moving but have to be very delicate on the gas pedal if I press it to hard it just revs up with no speed increase. Any help with this problem would greatly be appreciated.

It could be as simple as the transmission is slightly low on fluid. There is one common area it leaks from:
