Car only runs when fuel line is loosenedwestvia 06-25-2010, 08:29 PM 1998 Camry 4 CYL. I replaced the timing belt, and water pump. The car got really hot afterwards so I turned it off and replaced the thermostat also. Now it will not start! It will fire a bit when i crank it but not start..... almost like its not getting fuel. So i loosened the fuel line right above the filter to see if its pumping fuel and it started right up! Fuel shooting everywhere, i tightened the line back down and it died! what gives? I've tried loosening/tightening with the fuel cap on and off thinking maybe its a pressure thing... but can't get it to start with the line tightened. any help is appreciated! thanks! I've checked camshaft position sensor and ignition coils. Fuel pressure is normal and holds at 50psi RIP 06-26-2010, 11:14 PM I had an 85 VW Jetta do the same thing once. Car would crank and not start. Crack open the fuel line on the fuel distributor and it would fire right up. Turned out to be a bad primary fuel pump. Not to say this is your problem nor do I know how to prove it but, there it is. Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
