1971 Porsche 917 "Pink Pig" - 2010 Le Mans Weekend Build

Built over the 2010 Le Mans race weekend.

The Fisher kit of the 1971 Porsche 917-20 “Pink Pig”. She might be as ugly as heck but this has always been one of my favourite liveries – who said German engineers don’t have a sense of humour?

The kit is simple but very well designed and cast with no bubbles to clean up, very little flash and goes together pretty easily. The most clean up was required on the wheels where there is a lot of resin to file away from behind to open them up.

The decals are very well designed and printed although on my sheet the black could have been sharper and better registered. Fisher have designed the dotted lines with extra length “built in” so it is well worth test fitting them and cutting to length BEFORE you dip ‘em in water (that sounds like the voice of experience, doesn’t it ;) )

Other then the vacuformed clear parts - which I always absolutely hate and can’t do well – the kit was a pleasure to put together.

The body was painted with Tamiya TS-25 Pink through airbrush for mist coats and one wet form the can. Followed by Mr. Top Coat Gloss under the decals and Zero 2K clear over the decals. Tires were Tamiya TS Rubber and the wheels Tamiya TS Semi-Gloss Black. All other parts were painted with Vallejo Acrylics.

Some WIP photos taken along the way.

Nice work on that model, I have not worked up the courage or the money to get a resin kit yet.

Even with a simple kit like this, you take the same efforts as you would with a museum piece model.
