Yamaha YZR-M1 2004 - Rossi Full Detail Bike

Well this is only my second attempt at modelling since I was a kid, my first attempt being a rather conservative attempt at Shinya Nakanos Kawasaki ZX-RR from 2004 (which can be viewed here: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=1015002)

For my second attempt because I enjoyed making the Kawasaki so much, I thought I'd do another MotoGP bike - Vales first Yamaha in the top class, the YZR-M1 (also from 2004) ... I've also gone a bit nuts and purchased the Top Studio full detail up set, Top Studio metal chain, Top Studio racing stands and a few other things including the Tamiya metal front fork set, some metal cable tensioners, a carbon fibre decal sheet and a photoetch sheet of nuts and bolts (also from Top Studio!)

Now one thing I learned early on in my first build is that it's all well and good following the instructions but you quickly get bored of waiting for paint or glue to dry before moving on to the next bit .. I found it much quicker to build up the various sub assemblys that were easy to do individually, before joining the various bits together when bits had dryed.
That's why you may find this WIP kind of a bit random, because I will be doing random bits that I can separately while waiting on other bits to dry!!!

Anyway, on to some more photos, here is a mockup of the frame (unpainted and unglued) with a large section cut out of the front to allow the Top Studio wiring loom to be situacted ...

I've also made a start on the chain .. I don't know why on earth I deceied this was a good idea to do because it's so fecking small and each of the links need filing to make them fit properly! I hope it's worth it at the end is all I can say!

The only other images I have to show since starting this yesterday are of the front air deflecters that will sit either side of the front wheel .. this is showing the before on the left and one on the right with a carbon fibre decal applied ...

... and this is with both completed and small photoetch bolts glued in place (which aren't visable that well in these photos do to the flash, so I'm sorry about that!)

More to come soon! ...

This bike is beautiful! I'm waiting the finished pictures and I have a question: Which carbon fibre decal you used?
(Sorry for my English, I'm hungarian)

EFWoRKs & Ravan17 - Thanks for wishing me luck with the chain, I haven't actually done much more to it yet than what I posted ... I'm still filling down all the links which is taking AGES!! If I'm going to do it though, I'm going to do it right! :)

Adamstar71 - Sorry I should have mentioned before but I'm using a sheet of Crazy Modeler Carbon Fibre and it's the 1/24 scale, not the 1/12 scale that should match the bike, I just think the 1/12 looks a little big but that's just my opinion!

More updates and photos coming right up!

Right, well as I was saying above, I've kind of put the chain to one side for the moment while I'm sort out the links but I have moved on to other things!

Here is a picture of some of the engine parts glued together and primed ready for painting;

... and here are a few pictures after painting and a bit of detailing. The engine isn't complete by any means, but the bulk of it is built. I haven't added some things yet because there are tons of parts from the top studio detail up set to be attached to it yet ...

... and here are some of those resin parts I'm talking about that need painting and attaching (some I have obviously starting painting/glueing) ...

The other part I haven't attached to the engine yet is the sump, but I'm using it as a test bed for embedding nuts and bolts. Here is a picture where I've cut in the sump drain plug ...

One thing I have been waiting on for a few weeks now was a fine drill set (made by Tamiya) that I couldn't get hold of in the UK so I ordered it from Hong Kong ... It came today!

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k10/sezshock/yamaha/img_5229.jpg

Obviously you can't use these in a drill as they are too small so you need a pin vise which thankfully I already have. The size of the drill bits are 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6 and 0.8 of a millimetre and will be a god send for working with some of the resin parts in the Top Studio set!!
I couldn't resist and had to try one out today as well and I used the smallest (0.3) to make a hole and fit the metal cowl pin you see in this photo ...

Now to get stuck in to the Top Studio set!!!!

fittings looks great man! just like the rest of the build. I actually just instaled some of those fitting in a 1:1 scale on my real supra and they looked exactly like the ones you have, great work
