For the most part rotary engines work very good. :D

Actually please define more, are you talking about the Wankel rotary, or the radial rotary piston engine?

rotary, radial and gas turbines are 3 completely different engines, i'd suggest howstuffworks.com again, as the pictures they provide are the best way to learn it.

Well there are two types of radial engines, a plain fixed radial, and a rotary radial, in which the entire engine rotates around the crankshaft. Some people get confused by the engine term "rotary" so I prefer to use the name "wankel" when refering to the rotary engines that Mazda and NSU made.
