2001 GM LS-C CD Player question

I have the sport model that has the steering wheel controls but there is no CD player but there is a CD button on the radio. I would like to find a CD player that will work with the steering wheel controls and someone at a dealership said it must be one made for the GM. Is this true or does anyone have any ideas about locating a OEM CD player?

Thank you.

Try http://www.crutchfield.com I believe they may have a set up for this type of situation!! They have a toll free number and I have found their advisors (especially the Tech ones) to be very competent. MB

Get an OEM radio that will directly fit and work with the wheel controls. Aftermarket head units may or may not work with the wheel controls.

Visteon is the manufacturer of the Ford radios in these vehicles. You can usually find these for sale on Mustang and other Panther-related (Crown Vic, Marquis, Town Car, and Marauder) forums and ebay.

I suggest getting either the Visteon Mach MP3 model, which can support playing MP3 CDs or getting the model which does not have the CD in the head unit and get the 6-CD changer in the trunk. It's an easy drop in. All the wiring is in there already. You just need to replace the head unit and get the 6-CD changer.

Keep in mind that your radio is not a double din. It is a 1.5 din in the front and tapers off to a 1.0 din in the back. If you do go aftermarket, it must be a single din model and you can fill the upper space with a little pocket.

Take a look here for a wealth of radio information:
