Alright, this will make people laugh. I just bought a 1986 Dodge Daytona 5sp Turbo. It needed a head gasket and the waste-gate fixed on the turbo. So me and my friend did the work and get her running around 10pm that night. We went for a 'test drive' and thats when it all happened. We went and put a full tank of gas in her and hit the highway to see what it could do. We got on the hightway got up to around 100mph and started swerving traffic. We did this for around a hour then I took my friend back so he could pick up his car and goto his girlfriends house. When we got there I told him the race was on. (He was driving a Chevy Beretta...) So we started racing on very busy streets swerving lanes and all then it opened up a little when we hit some back roads. I was behind him and I shifted down a couple gears and turbo kicked in all the way and i tried to pass him around 115 mph. I noticed a car coming head on with me since I was in the completely other lane. So I pushed the pedal to the floor (make sure i had enough distance to get over since I did not have a rear view mirror) and cut over way to hard. I hit some gravel off side of the street and started spinning down the road. I ended up hitting a parked Chevy S-10 around 90mph and I slid into somebodys yard. I hit so hard the dash was pushed against my seat, all glass broke, the passenger side was sliced clean open. the head unit broke in the dash.... Cops came and I got rushed to hospital for minor scrapes n crap.

When we went to court we got 25 days house arrest, $500 fine, 5 years probation, S-R 22 bond put on insurance, 6 Points for racing, 2 Points for losing control. We almost ended up in jail over this, so im done with street racing for a while. I was 17 when it happened now im almost 21, so points should be coming off soon.... my insurance was around $200 a month for liability only... ; (

I thought that question long and hard... over the course it took me to pee.... and I came to the conclusion that the Dodge must of been pushing the Barretta whilst in the draft of a very late UPS truck. Thus is how they achieved the said 115mph.

But what I REALLY want to know is... how did he know he was doing 115mph? All american cars in the 80s had 85mph speedos... yes even corvettes and camaros and cadillacs... i'm pretty sure a itty bitty dodge had a 85mph speedo.

I mean even the Delorean had a 85mph speedo. Except in Back to the Future I they show a 95mph speedo for the quote "Ok lets see if you can do 90!"...

could be wrong.... just something to think about. :D

maybe he wet his finger and stuck it out the window to measure air speed. we all know that is the profesional way to judge speed - jet fighter pilots do it all the time.

you can actually street race relatively safely but it still has a high probability of crashing.
Driving like that you probably have 9/10 chance of crashing. Opposite side of the road? On coming traffic? In the dark? come on

i dunno but it sounds kinda like BS to me you'd have to be really bloody stupid to drive like that

he probrably judged his speed from the beretta's speedo, and he should be lucky that he got a little inexpensive dodge wrecked. if he wrecked a more expensive car, that would've made him alot more pist.

i was driving on the freeway one night and on the inside next to the barrier some FU*KTARD had parked a freaking Rig next to the central divider.
Its gigantic rear end was facing kinda towards me it was pitch black and i never saw it i got a massive shock and just brushed past it sooo close.
If anyone had an accident there at that point and hit that dumper it would've killed them.
Some people are completely irresponsible.

My Firebird goes up to 140 I think so I know Camaros had to be the same, and most likely Corvettes.

regardless of what the speedometer says...That was incredibly stupid! I am dissappointed in you Devil! It being a long time ago brings back some credibility though.

man you went down like that racing a beretta? if you get busted that bad you should be racing at least a supra or vette or something fast as hell. not a beretta....

anyways i could see how that could happen. bummer.

"fu*ktard" of course, being the CHP designated word for an irresponsible and dangerous driver.

its safer in the dark.. less cars around and if there is a car coming around the corner in the other lane you can see their headlights and have warning to get out the way.

that was totally blatantly stupid racing, just going all out non stop thru a city is going to get you busted, killed, or crashed. if you're going to race at least just do like a quarter mile down an empty road and be done...

Well, first off, what a horrible thing to do to a FWD turbo Mopar. That Beretta didn't stand a chance. I hope you learned your lesson. I NEVER street race unless there is practically nobody around, and when I street race it is usually a drag race from light to light. You deserved what you got, especially for ruining that perfectly good car.

To address the speedometer question, the turbo Mopars in the 80s went to 125 MPH not 85. All the N/A only went to 85 MPH. And trust me, the GTC hit well over that. :D
