Im just changing my tranny fluid and filter I know it uses atf+4 but how much is put back in? I would of measured it if it wouldnt of ended up on my arms and chest(So dam stupid). And is it necessary to use the silicone on the gasket when installing the pan? The instructions say not to, just start in the center criss crossing at 10-12lbs. Dumb question, but im sure one of you guys know! Thanks Ron 97 ram1500 4wd 5.2

I don't use any sealer on the trans pan gasket.
I pour in enough to show on the dipstick just below the ADD mark, start the engine, put the shifter in neutral for a minute then through all the gears without driving then Park. After the engine warms to 180F, pull the dipstick and re-check the level with the engine running in Park.
Fill to just below the Full mark then test ride then re-check.

Does that mean no more than 4 qts?

Let the dipstick be your guide.
My Jeep Liberty doesn't even have a dipstick. Diamler-Benz in their wisdom determined Jeep transmission problems were due to well meaning folks overfilling the trans, foaming the fluid then smoking the clutch packs from lack of hard hydraulic pressure...foam compresses.
