My chevy S-10 wont start

05-26-2010, 03:40 PM
i have a 1995 chevy s10 4 cyl and the other day when i tried to start it, it started but then died. So i tried to start it again but in order to keep it running i had to pump the gas petal. When my tow truck guy got there he grabbed a rubber mallet and banged on the gas tank while i started it. But when i got home it stopped starting. I already tried to replace the fuel filter but i was wondering if it could be the fuel pump or anything else.

Could very well be the pump or the electrical connection at the pump. Check fuel pressure and leakdown when it's acting up. Key on, engine off, fuel pump running, pressure must be 41psi to 47psi and must not drop more than 5psi for 3 to 5 minutes after the pump shuts off. Fuel pressure while at idle should be 31psi to 44psi. Post your results.
