Cobra w/ gt badging (i think)KrNxRaCer00 05-03-2003, 05:58 PM well, i was out getting crickets for my lizard, and on my way home i am behind a late 90's mustang who decides to take off through traffic. i speed up a little bit, and we end up lined up at the next light. i check around for cops/traffic, an decide it was clear. so he looks over an gives a little laugh, an i jus rev back at him. he rev's up, an we sit an wait for the light. the light turns green an we both go. i chirp a little and get a decent launch, but his rwd gives him bout 1/2 a car off the line. through 1st, he pulls a little bit and has about 3/4 of a car when i shift to 2nd. top of 2nd, i start pulling on him, and when i get into 3rd, i am even w/ him, and through 3rd, i pull 1/2 a car on him as we're aproaching traffic. considering the guy also had an APC sticker on him windshield, im pretty sure that it was jus a gt with the lil cobra badging on the side. i was pretty happy though, was my 1st run against one of the stangs. :D danno_SS 05-03-2003, 06:59 PM Congrats, good kill. It could have been a true stockish late 90s Cobra. They weren't much quicker than the GTs of the same year. 1999 Mustang SVT Cobra Engine:4.6 L V-8 HP:320 bhp @ 6000 rpm TQ:315 lb/ft @ 4750 rpm 0-60mph: 5.4 sec. 1/4 mi: 13.9 sec. @ 102.4 1999 Mustang GT Engine:4.6 L V-8 HP:260 bhp @ 5250 rpm TQ:302 lb/ft @ 4000 rpm 0-60mph: 5.4 sec. 1/4 mi: 14.0 sec. @ 100.2 -The Stig- 05-03-2003, 07:13 PM Originally posted by danno_SS 1999 Mustang SVT Cobra Engine:4.6 L V-8 HP:320 bhp @ 6000 rpm TQ:315 lb/ft @ 4750 rpm 0-60mph: 5.4 sec. 1/4 mi: 13.9 sec. @ 102.4 1999 Mustang GT Engine:4.6 L V-8 HP:260 bhp @ 5250 rpm TQ:302 lb/ft @ 4000 rpm 0-60mph: 5.4 sec. 1/4 mi: 14.0 sec. @ 100.2 I like how the times are damn near identical... so much for paying extra for the better model. haha... Go Fajord.:alien2: 90gs 05-03-2003, 07:23 PM the gt gets its torque sooner in the power band but still thats pretty lame difference... get better mileage with the lower HP of the GT and its almost as fast lol fatninja19 05-03-2003, 10:41 PM Hey Krn, shouldn't you be running high 14's? The Stang didn't seem to really have a bad launch, so what happend with that guy? He couldn't drive? And the times of the Cobra and GT sure are weird... Wasn't that slow time from the Cobra due to the Cobra's not even making close to what Ford claimed for HP?? Also, just because the tq in teh Cobra peaks 750 rpm later, shouldn't really justify such a slight margin in 1/4 times because that extra 60hp should really help. YogsVR4 05-03-2003, 11:13 PM Nice job :) You ran him down pretty quick. 94svt5.0 05-04-2003, 12:52 AM It sounds like it was something closer to a V6 mustang with cobra badges. Its doubtfull with your mods that you would run with and pass a late model cobra with a good driver. Those times are probably from a pre-fixed cobra. Most of the times floating around out there are from when the 99 cobra first came out and are reflective of how down on HP it was. k6kicker 05-04-2003, 01:18 AM Originally posted by danno_SS Congrats, good kill. Its more like they dyno an engine on a stand, not in the car, most of the loss HP was from kinked exhuast pipe which occured due to fittment problems. fatninja19 05-04-2003, 12:30 PM Originally posted by 94svt5.0 It sounds like it was something closer to a V6 mustang with cobra badges. That sounds more right. R1-rider 05-04-2003, 01:57 PM Yea, the driver would have had to miss gears several times in order for you to win. Try a V6 with cobra badges, or else Eboost helped your car win. BlkCamaroSS 05-04-2003, 04:26 PM This is OT, but very nice sig R1-rider:hehehe: KrNxRaCer00 05-05-2003, 02:24 AM uh...no...v6 stangs are high 15's low 16's. i've raced v6 camaro's an a stang before, an they weren't even close. the guy had 2 friens in his car. i NEVER said, it was a cobra...but the gt's aren't THAT fast. cuz the nite before, i ran into a 2002 ish gt an we both dropped to 2nd, an he BARELY pulled a little on me (this was completely stock gt w/ an old guy driving, so no, it wasn't jus v6 w/ gt badging). the way that got up an moved, there is NO way he was a v6. but i do enjoy how every time someone w/ an import runs a domestic, there's gotta be SOME catch to it...im sorri, but everytime an import beats a mustang, there is NO way in 94svt's mind that it coulda been anything BUT the v6 version. i never said it was a 99, it was a late 90's, like a 97-98. which unless im wrong is only rated at 220/260 an weighs close to 3300 lbs (3270). add two friens to that, now how far off is my story? o, but thats rite...his car would be a 14 flat stang...because u guys knew that it was a 99 rite? hrmmm...he weighs about...900lbs more then me (including passengers 3300+400lbs=3700, me=2650+165=lil over 2850), yet only has 50hp more (he was stock) so...lets think...a 97-98 mustang v6...150/215, in a car that weighs jus over 3000 lbs, an add two friens to that...hrmmm...he'd be a lot farther back then that. 'm sorri, but before putting down every possible thing but that it was a v6, consider the other things, an yes, im sorri i didn't say he had 2 passengers w/ him in the original post. NSX-R-SSJ20K 05-05-2003, 07:18 AM and he'd only accept the loss if the Import was turbo charged and had 350hp+ 94svt5.0 05-05-2003, 04:57 PM You never said untill now what year range you thought it was, I guess you looked it up and realized a 99 or newer would have walked you. Yes if it was a 94-98 mustang GT and was a stock auto with two riders in it then you would probably have not had any trouble with it. The 94-97 mustang GTs have 215hp while the 98 has 225hp. Why is it that any time anything comes up about a import beating a Mustang I get all kinds of comments like:" there is NO way in 94svt's mind that it coulda been anything BUT the v6 version." and : "and he'd only accept the loss if the Import was turbo charged and had 350hp" So, whats up with that? Does it make you feel better about driving a 4cyl? Or in NSX case; nothing at all? KrNxRaCer00 05-05-2003, 06:27 PM no...i knew that it was a later 90's stang, an that it wasn't the newer type of gt. u simply ASSUMED that i thought i'd beaten a 99, but, if u'd have jus asked the year instead of once again ASSUMING it was a v6, then i'd have told u wut year i thought it was. the reason u get comments, is because every time an import DOES beat a mustang, or keep up w/ one, ur the 1st to say "had to be the v6, or an auto." o...btw, it was a manual tranny, w/ the way he was rev'n an the u could see him shifting through his gears (not jus through his auto). one last thing, it doesn't make us feel any better about having a 4 banger, cuz im damned proud of driving one, but its pointless for U of all ppl to say wut our cars are capable of an wut we beat/didn't beat, when u weren't there. KrNxRaCer00 05-05-2003, 06:29 PM an i think i kno why ppl have so many doubts...my bad, the thread is SUPPOSED to say GT WITH COBRA BADGING. my fault once again on there...hey, im human. 94svt5.0 05-05-2003, 07:05 PM The only times I say it was a v6 or auto is in situations where, short of gross human error the out-come should have been different. KrNxRaCer00 05-05-2003, 11:51 PM well...even w/ out human error...the outcome is still the same. simple as that. carrrnuttt 05-06-2003, 11:40 AM Originally posted by 94svt5.0 The only times I say it was a v6 or auto is in situations where, short of gross human error the out-come should have been different. Remember when I told you to lay-off the shoulda-coulda-wouldas? Things like these happen --- get over it. Not trying to re-hash our old battles, but seriously, just get over it. Whenever you feel like defending or making up an excuse for the car you feel should've won, instead of congratulating the winner, just hold back, get over it. If you still can't, don't type anything...it just starts shit. Somebody that starts obvious BS or is a troll is one thing...but that's another story...another thread. 94svt5.0 05-06-2003, 10:49 PM Are you calling me a troll?? I call the situation like a see it, if the facts show another out come is probable, then your going to hear about it. If it offends you then deal with it, that is how its always been and that is how its always going to be. Dont even try to tell me freedom of speech and opinion are not alowed on this board. I will continue to express my take on things. Know wouldnt this be a fun place if every one conformed to one view point....... fatninja19 05-06-2003, 11:38 PM I assumed it was a new style GT because of the post comparing a 99 Cobra and a 99 GT. My mistake. :) carrrnuttt 05-07-2003, 10:23 AM Originally posted by 94svt5.0 Are you calling me a troll??... Uhhh...no:rolleyes:. Read my post again. Those 99 GT's are only running 14.6's box stock. About the only way you will see a 14.0 is with slicks and skinnies, and a 5spd, and a really cold day, with a driver that races the 1/4 all the time. The 99 Cobra was underrated, it was making about 285hp, which is why there is no 00 cobra. They cancelled all production, and issued a recall to fix the problem. As you can see, they now don't have a problem like that. The 03 Cobra is rated at 390hp, and puts down 360+ at the rear wheels. And as far as that goes, if it was a 96-98 GT, it was only putting out 215hp at the flywheel, and only ran a 15.4 box stock. Rob Actually, a good driver can get a bone stock 99+ GT into the 13s no problem. And the 94-98 Gts can bang a high 14 with a good driver as well. The time befor last when I was at the track, a bone stock 96 GT with stock paper filter and air silencer ran a 14.9 with some kid driving it. Its all about the driver. Also, in one of the 1994 issues of MM&FF they where able to get mid 14s out of a new stock 94 GT. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
