Vibrating BrakesARR41779 05-03-2003, 04:01 PM I have a '97 civic DX coupe and the brake vibrate like a son-of-a-b*tch when applied above 50mph or so. I want to know if the rotors have to be turned while still on the vehicle, since my 91 CRX was like that. Also, can anybody give me a rough estimate on getting all four rotors turned at a dealer? Or where I could get it done cheeper.:D Thank's for any help! wheel1856 05-03-2003, 05:20 PM you dont necessarily have to go to the dealer to get the rotors turned, and I dont think they have to be kept on the car either. BUT, if they are OE rotors, they tend to be thin, and may not be able to be turned if they are warped really bad. in which case, new rotors can be expensive, but just to have them turned shouldnt be too bad. Drift King 05-03-2003, 05:45 PM I have the same thing, are you sure it's the rotors? I once had the calipers lubed up at a shop and that fixed things, but it came back. If it is the rotors, why would they warp? civicHBsi91 05-03-2003, 06:54 PM pep boys 6 bucks a pop liquid8 05-03-2003, 07:35 PM if you don't tighten them in the star pattern or if you tighten too tight. they could also warp if you get them really hot and slam on the brakes ARR41779 05-04-2003, 03:10 PM 6 BUCKS A POP!!! That's for me, I'm just gonna sell the car in a couple of months anyway. I don't want the brakes to do that when a potential customer is driving it! While I have your attention, what about a headlight assembly. My front left light is all fogged up from condensation. Can I replace the cover only, or do I have to buy a whole assembly. If so, where can I find one without going to a dealer? You guys kick ass, appreciate the help! civicHBsi91 05-04-2003, 04:24 PM just to let you know i took them the rotors cuz at the time i was working on the drivetrain and i though it would be a good idea to get them turned....it might cost alittle extra if you bring your car there and have them do it i dont know for sure tho and your headlight go checkout some junkyards for ones that arent cracked or whatever your situation is 911GT2 05-04-2003, 04:39 PM Either the rotors are warped or the brakes need a bleedjob. Machining rotors can get a little expensive, but you can bleed the brakes at home or take it to Midas for a fairly low cost. BTW, in case you didn't know, bleeding gets rid of the air in the brake lines. If there's some air bubbles, they could be causing your problem. wheel1856 05-04-2003, 06:43 PM civicHBsi91 is right, a junkyard assembly would be cheap and easy. blowdry your headlight though, and check to make sure the boot around the light harness is on secure and in good condition, that may be all. and there's always the option to toss the lamp assembly in the oven and re-seal it...but its mucho mucho easier to just get a new one from a recycler. civicHBsi91 05-04-2003, 08:08 PM Machining rotors can get a little expensive since when is 12 bucks expensive *6x2=12* 911GT2 05-04-2003, 11:59 PM Originally posted by civicHBsi91 since when is 12 bucks expensive *6x2=12* That's when you bring them the rotors, which means you gotta take em off and reinstall them yourself. Some people aren't up to the task. Which is why I said CAN get expensive. ARR41779 05-05-2003, 07:54 PM I'm damn sure it's the rotors, I've felt warped rotor before. I could take the rotos off myself, if I had somewhere to work on the car! I work for BMW NA, so they won't let me bring my car in unless it's a BMW, and I live in an apartment so I get screwed with this car! Thanks for the help, all of you! Look me up with any questions you may have on BMW's......right.:D civicHBsi91 05-05-2003, 09:32 PM That's when you bring them the rotors, which means you gotta take em off and reinstall them yourself. it takes like 3 minutes to get them off literally vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
