95 ford escort I cannot retrieve codes for check engine light. HELP

I have tried to retrieve codes off of my 95escort & I have tried 2 different diagrams that I found on the web with no luck. So I went out and bought an actron code scanner at napa for ford lincoln & mercury. I set it up the way that it told me & it wont pull codes either. Does anyone have any idea what may be causing the problem here?

I just answered this question for you on another forum. lol You've got the right idea though asking on several different forums. For anyone else who may run into this problem, it was a bad ECU.

You don't need a code reader to get the codes. Just a short piece of wire. Google EEC-IV

I didn't know they made a code reader for pre-1996 OBD II systems. Well, what do you know?
