Late last year I bought my first car model in 1 / 12 scale. This is a Porsche 910 Nürburgring 67 'winner - Tamiya 1/12.

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/910/P910_0001.jpg

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/910/P910_0002.jpg

This model in 1967-68 had a lot of success at the World Sportscar Championship Manufactures,

I started collecting photos of the Porsche and bought some extras.

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/910/P910_0003.jpg

Finally could not stand it and began construction in early March.

I started the engine and gearbox.

This is the gearbox and an element which supports the exhaust pipes in real 910

and tamiya

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/910/P910_0005.jpg

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/910/P910_0006.jpg

and my work

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/910/P910_0008.jpg

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/910/P910_0007.jpg

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/910/P910_0010.jpg

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/910/P910_0009.jpg

enclosure gearbox is not made at exactly

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/910/P910_0011.jpg

and there are no screws connecting the motor with gearbox

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/910/906-0221-52.jpg

So I did it

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/910/P910_0012.jpg

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/910/P910_0013.jpg

I decided to add a metal screw

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/910/P910_0018.jpg

also added a few more special features

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/910/P2.jpg

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/910/003_1.jpg

this is transmission with the engine block and sport oil filter and starter

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/910/P910_0020.jpg

oil filter by Tamiya looks like that

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/910/P910_0022.jpg

and real

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/910/34.jpg

I decided to do it more realistic

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/910/P910_0024.jpg

a few corrections and will be good

The work you are putting in the gearbox and engine is amazing. I like your work very much. Your idea of using threaded nuts and bolts is great, I think I'm going to use your idea because it looks so real. I hardly can't wait on more progress on this build.

Looking utterly brilliant at the moment! Are you going to use the kit decals? I've got the decals to do the silver Martini scheme which looks great, but I think the original Martini car ran the flat-8. Saw the Gunnar replica at the Le Mans Classic (with the flat-6) - it does look very cool! Also have an older second kit with a broken roof. Been tempted to roof chop it and make it into the Gerhard Mitter 910 Bergspyder! Have a look for it on the internet ...it looks nuts! :)

Looks great. I love all the nuts and bolts. It adds so much to the overall effect. You must have spent a fortune on all that brass hardware!

You should start planning a visit to Chicago next April to show this off at Ferrari Expo 2011(and also Porsche's).
Chicago is number 2 after Warsaw for its Polish population.(visit relatives as an excuse???)

Next step is a mechanical injection pump

This is a pump by Tamiya

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/910/P910_0069.jpg

basic problem is that he stands sideways and based on the motor housing

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/910/P910_0070_1.jpg

the next thing is to improve the appearance of the pump

I build this version which is on the box with the number 17, Nurburgring 1000km Race Overall Winner.

The next step is implementation of a mechanical tachometer, which made no provision for Tamiya.
So it looks 1:1

I think that fiberglass would be too thick. Film is thinner. The engine cover is a lot of embossment and the shape is rather complex. Film adapts better to the shape.

This film from my friend is unfortunately, too thick. Increasing the temperature did not help.

Hello.
I'm following your fantastic WIP.
I have the same kit on my pile, and will inspire myself from your stunning work, if I may?
I have a question:
From what book did you got the pictures.
Thank you for your answer.
Greetings, and once again, congrats.

Thank you very much Jamme.
I do not have any books about the Porsche 910. All pictures found on the Internet (google). Many hours of searching. Does not have too many photos detail of porsche 910 but the model 906 is very similar. Porsche 906 photos, you can find out more.

I found this picture looking for pictures for my next model (Porsche 935)

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/all/Mvc-017f.jpg

Cool shop, conversation between the guys in the picture could be like that

"- How can I help you?
- I'd like the second from the left of the first shelf from the bottom
- Pack?..."

Super model, craftmanship AND pictures, this is truly will be a scale masterpiece when completed. The clear vacuform parts for accurate depiction of the real parts on the 1/1 car just show how far your detailing is going...again SUPERB!!!

There's some great stuff going on here - liking it a lot! Hmmm...vacuforming parts is not something I've tried myself, but the results here look well worth the effort. If I end up making a 956 as my next project, I may have to give it a go - headlight covers, screen, side windows, etc.

I agree about the relative lack of coverage of the 910 in most Porsche books - which is a shame given how there is a design progression running through to the 917. The best I've found is probably in Paul Frere's 'The Racing Porsches', although it's mainly text about the development of the car rather than a photo reference. You seem to have found plenty of engine photos online, though...

Keep going!

I looked also at the bottom of the engine and I also can improve a few things.
There are exhaust manifolds

but it doesn’t look too well

I had to fix it

this the rest of the exhaust

I made the holes for screws of the pipe exhaust manifolds

I saw at the photos of engine elements which tamiya do not made

I think they made them, they are just molded in, or is that the shape of the block?

Very nice work!

Very nice work indeed.

Do you know if the Porsche factory cars had safety harnesses during the Nurburg race in 1967?
Keep going on your super job.

I do not know for sure but it seems to me that they had.
Tamiya has made seat belts in set.
