I got a 5 Speed 240sx w/exhaust and a Maxima Automatic with some shitty Intake 240 is a 1997 and maxima is a 1996

Who will win????? its a drag race

and um what hp does that 240 have?????

I would say the 240 sx since its got a good acceleration range but no top end. Also the Maxima is auto, which is a big slowdown if no big hp's.

well.....he is going to brake torque it......holding brakes revving and dropping the brake....bad for car but sure makes for a good launch

Moving to Car Comaprisons... and an odd comparo at that.

Doesn't 240 come with Truck engine? Plenty of torque but not much hp and top end.

You have to consider many factors in determining what car will win a drag...first of all..the maxima has a distinct disadvantage...it's FRONT WHEEL DRIVE..However..u also gotta consider...some Maxima's come stock with an inline 6 cylinder block with about 190 hp...while the 240 stock comes with an inline 4 and only 155 hp. and note...exhaust doesn't add much horsepower....what really makes the difference is the intake MANIFOLD..headers, type of catalytic, suspension, and of course clutch....if you have a good performance clutch with matching pressure plate..but with stock components..you could easily take the maxima...it's a matter of drive mostly though...

The Maxima has a VG30DE which only comes in a V-6 configuration, ;)

False in the 240 sx does make a big diference dyno test 14 hp
it well be very interesting to see what the 240 can do against the max.
it well be very close race.

SERIOUSLY, are those turbo s13 numbers or NA. and if it's NA what exhaust was it? 5Zigen? Apex, N1?

Really, where did he get this idea? Btw turbonetrix, it's a VQ, not VG, but I know what you mean. ;)

Also, I must agree that the 240's KA has significant flow improvement even with just an exhaust. As for the "intake MANIFOLD..headers, type of catalytic, suspension, and of course clutch", these modifications were never mentioned and are probably not part of this equation.

As for variables that DO matter, you'd better check on weight, meaning trimline. Base 240SXs are fairly light, and GLE Maximas are pretty heavy. Oh another thing, it's kind of difficult to brake torque in a front-wheel-drive car without moving forward; the parking brake in the back really doesn't hold the sucker down, so here is another point shining the 240SX.

It was in a n/a car if you read the SCC magazine Mike Kojima did this reserch (december 99) and if you look at the 263 page you will find the article .this dyno test was with apex cat back, and it was 15 hp no 14,its a oretty impressive goal!!

It twas but a simple question, I know the answer now, thank you =)

We know a maxima is better with its "inline 6"

Jk, we actually raced the cars and determined the Maxima to be faster then a low end 240 SX

Just taking a guess, but I dont think the 240 motor is a truck engine, it might be an engine used in a truck, but they have been using them in 240 for years.

But it does have low torque because its inline and its a big 4 cylinder.

And then the Maxima motor is 3 liters and produces 205lbs of torque on the older ones (95-99). Either way it depends on driver + mods =)

The first 240SX was the RPS13 240SX, which was the same as the 180SX in Japan. In the 180SX was a CA18DE motor, hence the '180.' Nissan decided, for whatever reason, not to use the CA motor in the U.S., so instead they used the KA24xx that was from the Nissan truck (and Pathfinder?) of the time. That's why it got called the 240SX here. Then, when the 180SX in Japan got the SR20DE and DET, along with the S13 Silvia and the S14, Nissan just kept making the KA motor to fit for the U.S. market.

Looks like a whole lot of the 240SX material leaked into your system, Jay!

I think I read somewhere that it's not the acutal engine out of the trucks but the head, pistons and a couple other things have been changed to make it more suitable for a car.

240 would win out with acceleration but has no top end as stated before. The Maxima has better top end. I'd have to say it would be faily even, tho it is a strange comparison.

its rear wheel drive, but maxima has wayyyyy more torque and would win, bad idea comparing same brand though =P my mistake

is true the top end of the 240 is poor but you sais in a drag not in a race so the top end doesnt mater
