Last one tonight, promise: In progress pics of my RWD Porsche 911

If you can't tell, I've been trying to make up for lost time tonight. This particular example from my in-progress stack is a Porsche 911 by Revell. First, here's what the kit I started with would've built up into.

Not too swingin', huh? Well, I started with kitbashing a new airdam off of the 1:24th scale Tamiya Porsche 935. Problem is, this is a 1:25th scale kit. I had to take out about an 1/8th of an inch of plastci from the center. Here's what it looks like right now.

Much better, in my opinion. To add some detail to the interior, as well as some style. I installed seats from a Revell Ferrari F50 and the Tamiya 935's dashboard. Seen here.

The requisite new larger-diameter wheels are out of the Revell Integra, but have been dechromed and will be sprayed gold. Plus they're wearing higher profile rubber from one of the Revell C5 Vettes. This takes away a ton of the "ricey" look of the wheels.

Finally, there was the ultra-crappy engine. It was basically a yellow rectangle with carburettors. NOT GOOD! In its place, I installed the engine out of the Revell/Dragon 911GT1, converted to NA for a more classic style. Besides, turbo 911's are getting overdone.

The engine pics are a little blurry, and I apologize. But that's the rundown on this project. There's a wing in the works for the rear, and the final color is going to be black with gold accents. Somewhat cliche, but very fitting. So, how is this one. And I promise, this is the last one for tonight.

At first glance, it seems you've swapped 'rice' for 'bling.' Will be looking for pics of the complete package before judging the gold wheels... :o Nice work on the frontend so far!!

Well, it's not so much a "Bling" approach as it is a classic German sports car approach. The Porsche 911's I'm most familiar with all wore lovely BBS mesh lace wheels; matte gold centers with polished aluminum rims. It was simply the "in thing" to do with a 911 after the 935 won Le Mans.

This is sort of a modern homage to those cars. A current take on what I feel is a timeless look.
