Tamiya Honda NSX

This is Tamiya kit number 24100: Honda NSX

I think that it's a good thing that I really like this car. Otherwise, I'd have never gotten through building it.

I painted it as the early NSXs were, with the black roof no matter what body color. The first time I masked off and sprayed the roof, the masking seal leaked black paint down onto the red, making a great mess. I stripped off all the paint, but it was a good two months before I could stand to pick it up again.

I'm glad I did, because I think it turned out quite well. I didn't change anything on the kit, including the ride height. It looks to me that it was well enough at the stock height. I really like the working pop-up headlights. I was skeptical about them at first, thinking they would be a cheap gimmick, and I had thought about just gluing them shut. It's a good thing I didn't because they are marvelous to look at.

Now all it needs is a proper prop-rod for the back glass, and a simple hinge for the engine cover, so that I don't have to throw it on the ground.

I have to complain about the turning radius. It's really lousy. It can't be more than about 15 degrees from center.

One thing I don't like is the blue windshield-shade decal. It was hard to get it to sit right, and when it finally did, it only half-adhered to the back of the glass. I think I'll skip it next time.
